Trust Doctor (ST1/ST2)

An opportunity has arisen within the Trust to join the Oral and Maxillofacial (OMFS) Department from September 2025 until September 2026 on a fixed-term contract as a Trust Doctor.

The Department carries out the full range of oral and facial surgery, including oral and facial malignancy and microvascular surgery, facial deformity, facial hard and soft tissue trauma, surgical dermatology, and dentoalveolar surgery. There will be a requirement to cross cover out of hours with colleagues in Ear Nose and Throat (ENT).

Applicants should possess BDS or an equivalent dental qualification as recognized by the GDC, and hold full GDC registration.

Interviews will be held on Friday, 23rd May.

Main duties of the job

The post is centered on Sunderland Royal Hospital. The department covers both elective and 'on call' commitments to hospitals south of the Tyne, including Shotley Bridge, South Tyneside, and University Hospital of North Durham.

It may be occasionally necessary to visit hospitals in the surrounding area for surgical lists and emergencies.

The clinical work will include:

  • Theatre Lists.
  • Ward work to provide care for pre- and post-operative patients.
  • Medical Examination of Patients.
  • Attending to emergency patients presenting to A&E in Sunderland.
  • Dento-alveolar and minor oral surgery.
  • 1:7 on-call cover including cross cover with ENT during out-of-hours on a joint rota.
