This opportunity is for a 6-month fixed term post with a view to extend.
The post will involve working within a busy Plastic Surgery Department attending theatre and clinics, and ward rounds when appropriate, (together with the supervising Consultant and independently), supervision of junior doctors and administrative work related to your clinical commitments.
Attendance at departmental audit meetings is compulsory, completion of an audit project is expected, and involvement in research encouraged. Attendance at departmental teaching and regional registrar training will be expected.
Main duties of the jobThe department of Plastic Surgery is the centre of excellence for breast reconstruction, skin oncology services and paediatric plastic surgery. The breast reconstruction service includes competence to a range of options. There is a particular emphasis for microvascular reconstruction DIEP flap and now our services are expanding so that more Black Country patients are offered DIEP reconstruction.
In addition to the breast reconstruction services, we offer a high-quality skin oncology service which includes rapid access clinics and surgeries like sentinel lymph node biopsies, block dissections and reconstruction following excision of melanomas and other skin cancers. We cover a large area which includes Wolverhampton, Wyre Forest and Cannock. We also offer Moh's surgery for skin lesions also.
We also provide a paediatric plastic surgery service, and our centre is well known for genital urinary reconstruction particularly hypospadias surgery and continues to be well renowned.

Job responsibilities- Provide clinical experience in Plastic Surgery
- Overnight post operative care for breast reconstruction patients
- Attend ward rounds, theatre and clinic sessions
- On-call duties in Plastic surgery
- Clinical history and examination
- Diagnostic testing
- Formulating and implementing management plans for patients within sphere of competence in both acute and long-term situation
- Communication with patients and their relatives
- Arrange investigations for patients and ensure results available in a timely manner
- Must hold full GMC registration
- Primary medical qualification
- Capacity to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team. Capacity to establish good working relations with others & values the input of other professionals in the team.
- Has understanding of the importance of communication within a clinical setting
- Demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in GMC's Good Medical practice (2013)
