Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Transport Planner to join our busy Transport Planning team in Cambridge on a permanent basis.

The role would suit a Transport Planner with a broad understanding of the profession, experience in development planning projects, and an interest in supporting public sector clients and infrastructure schemes.

ABOUT THE ROLE

You will work on a diverse range of projects, from strategic land promotion and development proposals through to infrastructure delivery, active travel initiatives, regeneration schemes, and public sector commissions.

Based in our Cambridge office , you'll work as part of a wider multidisciplinary team, developing your transport planning skills and experience across a variety of exciting regional projects. You'll collaborate with colleagues across transport planning, infrastructure, environmental, and engineering disciplines to help deliver sustainable and innovative solutions for our clients.

YOUR IMPACT

You will support the technical delivery of transportation projects, including:

  • Producing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, and Travel Plans.

  • Supporting transport studies, feasibility assessments, and technical analysis.

  • Undertaking junction modelling, capacity assessments, and transport analysis.

  • Supporting the delivery of strategic land development and public sector projects.

  • Assisting with project budget, programme, and quality management.

  • Liaising with clients, multidisciplinary design teams, local authorities, statutory consultees, and the public.

  • Contributing to the preparation of technical reports and planning documentation.

  • Mentoring and supporting junior members of the team.

You'll also have opportunities for career progression and professional development, with mentoring and training to support you towards professional qualifications.

ABOUT YOU

You will be degree qualified, ideally in Transport Planning, Geography, Engineering, or a related discipline.

You will have:
  • Experience and a good understanding of the UK planning system and its application to transport planning.

  • Experience preparing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, and Travel Plans.

  • Experience supporting development planning projects, including residential, commercial, mixed-use, or strategic land development schemes.

  • An interest in, or experience of, working on public sector transport and infrastructure projects.

  • Experience of junction modelling, capacity assessments, and transport analysis.

  • Experience using relevant transport planning and modelling software packages.

  • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience supporting project budget and quality management.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with clients and stakeholders.

  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable
  • Experience working with local authorities, public sector bodies, or infrastructure providers.

  • Experience supporting sustainable transport, active travel, or regeneration projects.

  • Working towards, or interested in achieving, a professional qualification such as Chartered Transport Planning Professional (CTPP) status.

  • Membership of, or aspiration to join, a relevant professional institution such as CIHT or TPS.
