Overview

Transport and Allowances Officer

Location: Ballard House, Plymouth, PL1

Contract: Temporary assignment (Nov 2025 - May 2026)

Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00-17:30

Pay: £13.26 per hour

Please note: An Enhanced DBS check is required for this role. If you do not currently hold a valid certificate, Pertemps will cover this upon successful placement.

Are you organised, approachable, and passionate about helping others? Pertemps are looking for a Transport and Allowances Officer to join the School Transport & Allowances Team in Plymouth. In this role, you'll play a key part in delivering smooth, reliable services that support children and families in accessing education every day.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative support across school transport and allowances services
  • Process applications and eligibility checks for free school meals
  • Manage DBS checks and ID badge issuance for school transport drivers
  • Maintain accurate records and databases for routes, equipment, and term dates
  • Coordinate changes to transport routes and communicate updates to operators and Passenger Assistants
  • Act as a reliable point of contact for parents, schools, and internal teams
  • Support HR administration for Passenger Assistants, including timesheets and absence cover
  • Assist in financial processes including invoice handling, budget tracking, and contract payments
Role Measures
  • Timely processing of DBS checks and ID badges
  • Accurate authorisation of free school meal claims and holiday allowances
  • Efficient coordination of transport routes and PA cover
  • Compliance with payroll deadlines and safeguarding policies
  • Proactive contribution to service improvements and customer experience
Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • GCSEs (A -C / 9-4) in English and Maths
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Proven ability to manage workload and meet deadlines
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in record keeping

Desirable:

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3
  • Knowledge of school transport policies and Capita ONE EMS
  • Experience in process improvement and data reporting
