Job Description
Training Programme Director in Internal Medicine Stage One.
- Training will support the Head of School in the Strategic Development of the School of Medicine.
- The post holder will lead on the development of the School's Recruitment and Retention Strategy and contribute to supporting the School Operational Programme.
- The post holder will be a member of the School Board.
- Currently, training for IMS1 doctors is overseen by TPDs who cover distinct sectors within the Deanery. After reflection, it is felt that a redesign of the system would be helpful both for educator development and ongoing resident doctor support.
- Creation of a Lead TPD to lead the service and assist with educator development especially of those new to TPD or ES roles.
- Development of robust governance procedures around ARCPs.
- Creating TPD leads who will focus on support after periods out of training and improving the working lives of doctors (including robust and equitable processes around the management of less than full time working).
- Creating a team structure that allows peaks and roughs of activity to be managed.
- Presence at teaching days to further help resolve queries in a timely way.
- Provide a structure that allows a point of contact in the event of an urgent matter arising.
- Run regional IMT3 teaching sessions for Manchester Sector.
- Coordinate ARCP for all three years, including out of sync trainees.
- Meet out of sync trainees to plan timetables and support them.
- Oversight of training amendments.
- Arrange face to face interim ARCPs with trainees.
- Lead on the development of the School's Recruitment and Retention Strategy.
- Contribute to the School Operational Programme.
- Participate in educational programme development, delivery and evaluation in line with IMS1 curriculum.
- Support trainees and trainers in educational and assessment contexts, including ARCPs.
- Run regional IMT3 teaching sessions for Manchester Sector.
- Coordinate ARCP for all three years, including out of sync trainees.
- Meeting out of sync trainees to plan timetables/SuppoRTT.
- Oversight of training amendments.
- Arrange face to face interim ARCPs with trainees.
Applicants from within the NHS will be offered on a secondment basis only. Agreement should be obtained from their employer prior to submitting the application.
Person Specification Qualifications- Substantive Consultant or Specialty Doctor in a medical specialty that hosts Internal Medicine Stage One Resident Doctors and currently working in the NHS in North-West Deanery.
- Member or Fellow of a relevant Royal College.
- Education qualification such as postgraduate certificate, diploma or master's in medical education.
- Experience of organising/delivering education programmes /courses.
- Considerable experience of working with doctors in an educational context.
- Good understanding of the IMS1 curriculum including mandatory placements.
- Experience as an educational supervisor for IMS1 doctors.
- Experience participating in ARCPs.
- Experience supporting doctors who have struggled with medical examinations.
- Trained and experienced in recruitment, selection and Equality and Diversity in the last 3 years.
- Awareness of funding streams for Healthcare Education.
- Previous or current appointment as a leader in healthcare education.
- Delivery of educational projects.
- Demonstrable leadership skills and an ability to influence and motivate others.
- A strong sense of vision and ability to innovate.
- Politically astute with an ability to sensitively manage complexity and uncertainty.
- Ability to problem solve and maintain objectivity.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, written and presentation skills.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Committed to own personal development and an ability to support others to develop and progress.
- Ability to rapidly establish academic credibility.
