Job Role: Trainee Career Advisor (Degree Apprenticeship)

Department: Student Services

Reporting to: Careers Lead

Contract: Full Time, Permanent

Salary: £25,276 - £27,604 per annum

Hours: 37 hours per week

Annual Leave: 30 days per annum plus statutory Bank Holidays

Pension: NEST Pension Scheme

The Role

We are seeking a Trainee Career Advisor to join our Student Services team, offering the opportunity to gain a Level 6 qualification in Careers Guidance and Development alongside valuable hands-on experience. In this role, you will support students with high-quality careers advice, helping them progress into higher education, apprenticeships and employment. You'll deliver one-to-one and group sessions, contribute to careers activities, and help learners make informed decisions about their futures. We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised individual with strong communication skills and a genuine passion for supporting students to succeed.

Key Responsibilities
  • To deliver high quality, impartial information, advice and guidance on all aspects of education, training and employment to students/prospective students and their parents/guardians via group and 1:1 intervention.
  • To play a crucial role in the provision of a high-quality progression guidance and advisory service to both current and potential students at the College.
  • To provide CEIAG to learners through confidential one-to-one guidance interviews, group sessions and workshops, and support cross-college activities such as enrolment, open events, careers fairs and progression events.
  • To develop a comprehensive and detailed knowledge and understanding of Labour Market Information and job profiles to enrich the advice and guidance provided to students.
  • To provide students with information on local and national job opportunities.

Qualifications
  • Personal commitment to continuous professional development and to the completion of the Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Development Apprenticeship.
  • Grade C or above in Maths and English (or equivalent).
Experience
  • Experience of working in a further education environment.
  • Experience of working with young people.
Knowledge & Skill
  • Knowledge of progression opportunities both within the College and externally - e.g. HE, apprenticeships and employment.
  • Good oral and written communication skills with a capacity to deal effectively with staff, students, parents and employers.
  • To have good time management and organisational skills.
  • Ability to speak confidently to large groups and individuals.
  • Customer focus combined with a flexible 'can do' attitude.
