We are launching an ambitious new Centre for Digital Data Research to harness the power of digital data in driving world-class, socially responsible research. This cross-disciplinary centre will combine academic and technical expertise with advanced computing capabilities to enable research at scale - from the processing of large, complex data sets to the training and deployment of cutting-edge AI models.
To support this exciting new centre, we are seeking an HPC-Cloud technician/specialist to play a critical role in supporting the computational platform to facilitate research projects. You will work closely with researchers, fellow team members within Technical Services and our colleagues in Information Technology & Digital to ensure key research projects have support in using university's research cloud platform optimally. Your expertise will help underpin the University's ambition to become a leader in digital and data-driven research.
Appointment Details
We are offering this appointment as one of two roles:
- Technical Specialist (HPC-Cloud): £35,116 to £39,355
- Research Technical Professional I (HPC-Cloud): £40,497 to £46,735
You will:
- Support the provisioning of HPC systems both on-prem and cloud, as well as supporting the monitoring of these systems.
- Build required software and configuration on HPC platform using relevant tools.
- Use scripting languages such as bash, perl and python to facilitate diagnostic monitoring, automation and queue management.
- Work closely and collaboratively with team members in Technical Services, colleagues in other Professional Services and research staff to ensure facilitation of research projects.
You will bring:
- Proven experience of using Linux operating system and system administration experience on this platform.
- Skills in supporting and provisioning of HPC systems.
- Extensive experience of use of scripting languages.
- Proficiency in the use of software building and configuration on HPC platform, and experience of relevant technology and required tools.
- Familiarity and understanding of database administration, Big Data and Deep Learning technologies.
