We are currently recruiting for full-time Technical Cleaning Operative at for Thames Valley Police. We are looking for candidates with a positive, can-do attitude and a strong ambition to develop and grow within the role.
The RoleAs a Technical Cleaning Operative, you will deliver specialist cleaning, decontamination, and sanitisation services across a variety of client locations in Berkshire, Oxfordshire, and Buckinghamshire. You will be responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and safety through a range of technical cleaning activities, including deep cleaning, biohazard and trauma cleaning, infection control, window and high-level cleaning, floor maintenance, and emergency response cleaning. Working in line with company procedures, industry standards, and Health & Safety regulations, you will help ensure safe, compliant, and hygienic environments for clients, staff, and the public while providing a professional and reliable service across multiple sites.
Key responsibilities include:
- Operate specialist floor care machinery including buffers, scrubbers, and polishing equipment.
- Strip, scrub, buff, seal, and refinish hard surface flooring using appropriate methods and chemicals.
- Deep clean and maintain carpets in accordance with BSI PAS 86 standards and approved industry practices.
- Carry out window cleaning using reach-and-wash systems and traditional cleaning methods.
- Deep clean washroom facilities, including descaling, sanitising, and sterilising surfaces.
- Operate high-level dust extraction and cleaning equipment.
- Respond promptly to scheduled and emergency cleaning requests, including out-of-hours callouts.
- Carry out specialist cleaning, decontamination, sanitisation, and infection control services in environments affected by biological contamination, bodily fluids, hazardous waste, and other high-risk incidents.
- Safely identify, handle, and dispose of sharps and hazardous materials in accordance with company procedures and legislation.
- Conduct dynamic risk assessments and implement appropriate control measures before and during cleaning activities.
- Wear and maintain Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) correctly.
- Complete job reports and documentation accurately following each assignment.
- Maintain cleaning equipment, vehicles, stock levels, and consumables to ensure operational readiness.
- Set up and remove safety barriers and signage to protect colleagues, clients, and members of the public.
- Adhere to site security procedures, access requirements, and confidentiality standards.
- Report hazards, defects, incidents, and equipment faults promptly to management.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts.
- A basic understanding of COSHH and a willingness to learn and follow Health & Safety procedures.
- Ability to operate industrial cleaning equipment.
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently or in a team.
- Must be willing to have the Level 3 Police Clearance, which will be paid for by the company.
- Valid driver's license (category B) and a willingness to travel is essential to this role.
