Technical Buyer

Location: Coventry

Competitive Salary + Benefits

Step into a high-impact Buyer role that blends technical purchasing, supplier development and commercial decision-making across motorsport and precision engineering. As a Buyer, you'll help secure the right suppliers, strengthen quality outcomes and support cost, lead-time and risk improvements from RFQ through to contract award.

What You Will Do:
  • Run sourcing projects for new and existing parts, from technical review to supplier nomination and contract award as part of the Buyer function.
  • Translate engineering requirements into sourcing decisions for production materials, components, indirect categories and capital equipment.
  • Prepare and issue RFQs, compare quotations on a total cost basis and recommend suppliers with clear commercial and technical rationale.
  • Qualify and support suppliers through capability assessments, audits, samples and first article inspection, aligning with supplier approval requirements.
  • Build should-cost models and cost breakdowns, then negotiate prices, terms, tooling and long-term agreements in support of monthly price variance targets.
  • Assess supply risk, support compliance with relevant trade and quality standards and embed responsible sourcing and ESG considerations into tender evaluation and contracting.
What You Will Bring:
  • Experience of end-to-end technical purchasing and sourcing within an automotive, motorsport or similar precision engineering environment.
  • MCIPS qualification, or working towards it, and a degree in engineering, supply chain/purchasing or similar.
  • Confidence reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications, turning them into practical sourcing requirements.
  • Proven capability running RFQs, evaluating quotations and negotiating with technical suppliers to deliver commercial outcomes.
  • Strong technical skills, with confidence using Microsoft Excel (lookups and pivot tables) and delivering presentations. Experienced with ERP/MRP systems.
  • Analytical skills, including should-cost or cost breakdown analysis.
  • Understanding of supplier qualification and quality systems, with an awareness of traceability and change control expectations.

This Buyer role is designed to drive procurement excellence in precision engineering, helping the business meet customer expectations while improving supply resilience and sustainability. Through robust supplier selection and responsible sourcing practices, the Buyer role supports stronger commercial performance, quality assurance and long-term partner development.
