Job Description

Technical Author - UAV/Aerospace (S1000D/STE)
Location: UK (Hybrid/On-site as required)
Security: SC Clearable (5 years UK residency)

Role:
Technical Author required to produce and maintain technical publications for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) systems within an aerospace SME environment. You will create system operating manuals, maintenance manuals, IPCs and training material supporting both internal teams and customers.

Key Skills/Experience:

  • Technical Author experience within Aerospace/Defence/UAV
  • Strong knowledge of S1000D and Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE100)
  • Experience with XML-based authoring tools (eg Arbortext, FrameMaker)
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Experience producing O&M manuals and Illustrated Parts Catalogue
  • Understanding of Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) principles
  • Experience managing document version and configuration control

Responsibilities:

  • Author and maintain UAV technical publications (O&M manuals, IPCs, service bulletins)
  • Create and manage S1000D Data Modules and IPD
  • Apply STE across all publications
  • Liaise with engineers and SMEs to validate documentation
  • Manage engineering change and customer feedback into publications
  • Maintain configuration and version control
  • Identify risks impacting safety or airworthiness

Desirable:

  • Experience with ground control systems or software documentation
  • Background in military or regulated aviation environments
  • HND/HNC/Degree in engineering or technical discipline

Eligibility:

  • British Citizen or right to work in the UK
  • Eligible for UK Security Clearance (5 years UK residency)
