Teaching Fellow in Photography

The Role:

As a member of the teaching team, you will contribute to the teaching and assessment of modules at Level 4 and Level 6 through a range of methods, which may include face-to-face and online lectures, seminars, group presentations, workshops, tutorials and software workshops.

Your work will include marking and verification of assessments, and ensuring teaching material remains current through active scholarship. You will act as a personal tutor, providing first-line support for students, and will take an active part in student admissions activities, including preview/open days, interviews and educational liaison events.

The post holder will play a key role in helping students develop as independent, critically engaged creative practitioners and professionals within photography. The role requires experience in photographic education, together with a good understanding of the history, practice and theory of photography, underpinned by your own practice.

The successful candidate should possess highly effective interpersonal skills and be a student-centred educator, focused on promoting diversity and inclusivity, with the ability to provide constructive and critical support.

Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues. Most modules are delivered in 10/20 week blocks.

The working pattern for this post is 22.2 hours per week split between Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Whilst there is a need to be on campus for teaching and office hours, hybrid working is available for this role.

The interviews are currently anticipated to be held on Wednesday 30 October.

This appointment is a fixed term contract until September 2027 (or the earlier return of the substantive post holder) to cover a period of maternity leave.

Salary Information:

New appointments will routinely be made to the entry spine point (minimum) for the advertised grade, from where the individual will (in addition to receiving annual cost-of-living-related increases) progress through the pay range to the maximum for the grade, within a reasonable timeframe. This ensures fairness, consistency and transparency in our pay structures. A higher starting salary or market supplement may be available for a truly exceptional candidate when circumstances fully justify a departure from our normal policy.
