Job Description
About the Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant you will work alongside teaching staff to support secondary aged pupils with a range of additional needs. Your role includes classroom support, helping students regulate their emotions, encouraging positive behaviour, and supporting pupils in reaching academic and personal goals.

Given the nature of the role, some pupils may display challenging behaviour; therefore experience with behaviour management, de escalation strategies, and building trusting relationships is highly beneficial.

Candidate Requirements
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND, SEMH, or behavioural needs
  • Experience in a school, care, youth work, mentoring, or similar setting
  • An understanding of positive behaviour support strategies
  • Confidence supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviour
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills
  • Patient, resilient, and consistent approach
  • Commitment to safeguarding and supporting vulnerable young people
  • Experience with Team Teach, MAPA, or other de escalation training desirable but not essential
