We're recruiting dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistants to join specialist SEMH schools in the Heathfield and Hailsham area, supporting both primary and secondary-aged pupils. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a nurturing environment where small class sizes allow you to build meaningful relationships and make a genuine impact on young people's lives.

This is a full-time, long-term role with the opportunity to become permanent for the right candidate.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you'll work alongside experienced teachers and therapeutic staff to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Providing one-to-one and small group support.
  • Supporting pupils both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with children and young people.
  • Helping pupils develop confidence, resilience and independence.
  • Supporting learning through creative and engaging activities.
  • Assisting with personalised learning plans and interventions.
  • Promoting a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment.
  • Working closely with teachers, therapists and families to support pupil progress.
  • Acting as a positive role model every day.

  • Care or Support Work

  • Sports Coaching
  • Psychology or Criminology Graduates
  • Social Care
  • Police, Prison or Armed Forces
  • Nursery or Early Years
  • Tutoring or Mentoring
Essential Requirements
  • A genuine passion for supporting children and young people.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A patient and resilient approach to behaviour support.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Right to work in the UK.
