We're recruiting dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistants to join specialist SEMH schools in the Heathfield and Hailsham area, supporting both primary and secondary-aged pupils. This is a full-time, long-term role with the opportunity to become permanent for the right candidate.
The RoleAs a Teaching Assistant, you'll work alongside experienced teachers and therapeutic staff to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.
Your responsibilities will include:- Providing one-to-one and small group support.
- Supporting pupils both inside and outside the classroom.
- Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
- Building strong, trusting relationships with children and young people.
- Helping pupils develop confidence, resilience and independence.
- Supporting learning through creative and engaging activities.
- Assisting with personalised learning plans and interventions.
- Promoting a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment.
- Working closely with teachers, therapists and families to support pupil progress.
- Acting as a positive role model every day.
- Patient, resilient and compassionate.
- Calm under pressure with a positive outlook.
- Passionate about helping children succeed.
- An excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
- Confident building positive relationships with pupils who may display challenging behaviour.
- Flexible, proactive and eager to learn.
- A team player who is committed to making a difference.
Previous school experience is welcomed but not essential. We would love to hear from candidates with backgrounds in:
- Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant
- SEMH, SEND or Alternative Provision
- Behaviour Mentor or Learning Mentor
- Youth Work
- Residential Childcare
- Care or Support Work
- Mental Health Support
- Family Support
- Sports Coaching
- Psychology or Criminology Graduates
- Social Care
- Police, Prison or Armed Forces
- Nursery or Early Years
- Tutoring or Mentoring
- A genuine passion for supporting children and young people.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- A patient and resilient approach to behaviour support.
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
- Right to work in the UK.
