Job Description

SEN Teaching Assistant (1:1 - Reception)

  • Location: PR3 area
  • Contract: Full-time
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30 - 15:30
  • Pay Rate: £16.35 per hour
  • Duration: Ongoing - continuing after the summer term (September)

A PR3 Primary School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Reception-aged pupil with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The pupil, a lovely little boy with ADHD, occasionally becomes emotionally dysregulated and overwhelmed, requiring consistent, nurturing support within the classroom. This full-time role is based entirely within the classroom setting, supporting the child with learning, emotional regulation, and engagement throughout the school day.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide 1:1 support to a Reception pupil with SEN in line with their EHCP.
  • Support the child's emotional regulation, attention, and engagement in learning activities.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement agreed strategies.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and build a trusting, supportive relationship.
  • Assist with classroom activities, transitions, and routines.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting children with SEN, particularly ADHD.
  • A calm, patient, and nurturing approach.
  • Ability to support emotional and behavioural needs in a positive manner.
  • Reliable, committed, and able to work full-time hours.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willing to apply).

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working in EYFS / Reception.
  • Knowledge of EHCPs and individual support plans.
