Oakfield Short Stay School is Leicestershire's provision for pupils who have been permanently excluded from school, or who are at risk of exclusion. We are expanding our provision and as a result we are recruiting more teaching staff. You will be part of a vital team in an exciting period of development, working with us to meet the needs of children and young people between the ages of 11 and 16 who have experienced periods of difficulty and need a different offer of education to secure their successful next steps, and support them to get back into mainstream education.
About the RoleThis role is to teach English to KS3/KS4 students. Students have a variety of learning needs and learn in small groups. We are looking for a person to teach in a creative, flexible, holistic, and trauma-informed manner, to raise engagement and drastically improve the outlook of student's educational journey. You will be at the heart of our mission, teaching a small group of learners and delivering a creative curriculum that captivates and inspires. The role would suit a teacher with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who can inspire others. Many of our young people present with challenging behaviour, and we are looking for someone who can demonstrate strong empathy and ability to intrinsically connect with pupils with complex SEMH needs.
Key Responsibilities- Teach and Inspire: Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons to a small group of learners, fostering a love for learning.
- Support Reintegration: Assist in reintegrating pupils back into mainstream schools, ensuring they receive the support they need and equipping them with the skills they need to be successful.
- Collaborate with Agencies: Work closely with educational psychologists, SEN coordinators, and other external agencies to support pupil progress.

About YouTo apply for this post, you must be able to evidence in your application how you meet the following criteria:
- Qualified teacher status. A specialism in English would be preferable.
- Experience of working with pupils with special educational needs in a secondary school, secondary pupil referral unit or special school
- Experience of teaching challenging pupils.
- Experience of educational development and planning.
- Ability to provide strategic direction and development on curriculum development and current issues.
- SEN legislation and county SEN policy and procedures
