A well-established accountancy practice in Belfast is seeking a Tax Technician / Tax Compliance Assistant to join its growing tax team. This role would suit an experienced Bookkeeper, Accounts Technician, Tax Technician, or part-qualified accounting professional who has developed exposure to personal taxation and is keen to build a long-term career within tax.
The successful candidate will work closely with tax specialists and partners, supporting a portfolio of clients with personal tax compliance matters, ensuring all returns are completed accurately and submitted within statutory deadlines.
Key Responsibilities- Preparation and submission of Self Assessment personal tax returns for a diverse client portfolio.
- Gathering and reviewing financial information required to complete tax returns.
- Liaising directly with clients to obtain tax documentation and resolve queries.
- Assisting with the administration and management of tax deadlines.
- Preparing tax computations and supporting schedules.
- Monitoring client records and maintaining accurate tax files.
- Communicating with HMRC regarding routine client matters.
- Assisting with capital gains tax calculations and basic inheritance tax matters where required.
- Supporting senior tax staff with ad hoc compliance projects.
- Identifying potential tax issues and escalating where appropriate.
- Ensuring compliance with current tax legislation and regulatory requirements.

- Tax Technician
- Accounts Technician
- Qualified or Part-Qualified Accounting Technician
- Experienced Bookkeeper with tax exposure
- Practice Accountant with compliance experience
- AAT, ATI, ACCA or ACA part-qualified professional
- Previous experience working within an accountancy practice environment.
- Experience preparing personal tax returns.
- Strong understanding of Self Assessment processes.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and client relationship skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritise workload effectively.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and practice software packages.
- AAT, ATI, ATT, ACCA or ACA studies underway.
- Experience using software such as Iris, CCH, TaxCalc, Sage or Xero.
- Exposure to partnership or corporate tax compliance.
- Knowledge of capital gains tax computations.
