Job summary

The Tactical Bid function within the Public Sector Enablement team focuses on speculative bids for Public Sector customers, designed to win incremental business for the CDW Public Sector Sales segment, that we would otherwise not compete for.

These speculative Public Sector bids are tactical in nature and will typically fall into:

  • Win business with new customers.
  • High revenue/low margin opportunities.
  • Market disruption (e.g. alternative vendors).
  • Bids that are deemed as 'Enabled' bids by the main Bid Management Team
  • Bids where Social Value only content needs to be written

As a Tactical Bid Manager, you will be responsible for managing Public Sector opportunities that meet certain criteria (e.g. Total contract value, complexity).

You will own completion of the response. This will involve producing a plan and engaging with representatives from internal departments and external vendors to collate information if and where necessary.

You will also need to work closely with account managers to produce cost models and commercials.

In addition, when you are not managing your own workload, you will be expected to provide support on other opportunities.

What success will look like:
  • Increased net sales revenue and GP through bids won
  • A return on investment through GP (full value and contribution weighted) of bids won
  • A win rate % at or above target set
What you will do Opportunity take-on
  • Assisting the Public Sector Strategy & Growth Manager to identify relevant opportunities
  • Supporting the bid review to provide rationale for the pursuit decision.
  • Identifying virtual bid team, engaging resources with the right skill sets to form a response to the customer's requirements.
  • Coordinating the customer's clarifications process.
Bid planning and management
  • Agreeing any responsibilities and work assignments with the correct SMEs
  • Producing and managing the bid plan, including resources, deliverables, timing, dependencies and risks.
  • Managing the identification of commercial and operational risks and issues and ensuring that these are assessed and appropriately controlled/mitigated.
  • Scheduling appropriate progress checks and reviews
  • Independent and collaborative authorship of custom content, as well as appropriate use of library material.
  • Critically reviewing draft bid content
  • Ensuring timely bid submission in compliant formats.
Bid process development
  • Initiating lessons learned process to act on bid outcomes and customer/internal/partner feedback.
  • Contributing new material to the boilerplate libraries and being proactive in boilerplate additions, corrections and updates
What we expect of you Qualifications
  • APMP Foundation certification desirable Skills and experience
  • Experience in the same or a similar role
  • Previous experience in Public Sector sales is desirable
  • Skilled at building strong relationships with sales teams and internal resources to respond effectively to business opportunities.
  • Advanced skills in Office 365 applications
  • Good understanding of technology and IT services concepts
