Are you ready to deepen your scientific expertise and play a key role in protecting drinking water quality? We're offering an exciting secondment opportunity within our Supply Science Team, where you'll become a trusted advisor to our Drinking Water Operations colleagues.
This secondment is a fantasticopportunity to broaden your technical knowledge, gain cross team exposure and make a significant contribution to safeguarding drinking water quality for our customers.
What you'll doAs a Supply Scientist, you'll investigate water quality issues, guide operational decision-making and build strong relationships across the business, all to ensure our customers continue to receive safe, high quality drinking water.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- lead investigations into water quality incidents and customer contacts, directing immediate actions and identifying root causes and long term solutions
- produce clear, evidence based reports that support operational and regulatory decision making
- build strong partnerships with water production, networks, catchment, compliance, engineering and laboratory teams
- communicate complex scientific issues simply and confidently to senior stakeholders
- review Drinking Water Safety Plans (DWSP) risks from source to tap, ensuring compliance with regulatory and company standards
- analyse trends in chemical, physical and microbial water quality data to identify emerging risks and recommend practical interventions
- maintain operator training materials and support upskilling across operational teams
- support environmental compliance, including OSM requirements and pollution reporting.
Your own car and valid driving licence is essential for this hybrid office/site-based role, with regular visits required to water treatment centres and network sites. Normal working hours are 08:00 to 16:00 Monday to Friday.
What you'll need- A relevant scientific degree (orequivalent experience).
- Proven ability to make clear, defensible decisions.
- Exceptional communication skills; able to craft precise regulatory reports and brief senior leaders.
- Credibility and great interpersonal skills to develop effective working relationships and assist multidisciplinary teams to maintain focus on drinking water quality at all times.
- Comfortable with data, root cause thinking and translating analysis into operational action.
