1. Role Purpose

The Student Success Manager is responsible for leading the College'sstudent success strategy, with a focus on improving student retention,continuation, progression and completion across all programmes. The post holdertakes an evidence-based, proactive approach to identifying students at risk ofdisengagement or non-contINUation, coordinating timely and effectiveinterventions that support students to achieve their academic and personalgoals.

This role is central to the College's obligations under OfS conditions ofregistration, particularly Condition B3, which requires registered providers todeliver positive outcomes for all students including continuation, completionand progression to employment or further study. The Student Success Managerworks closely with the Dean, Data Analyst and academic teams to ensure studentoutcomes data is translated into meaningful action, and that the College candemonstrate a robust and effective student success framework to the OfS and inTEF submissions.

2. Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the College's student retention strategy,developing proactive approaches to identifying and supporting students at riskof withdrawal or non-continuation.
  • Monitor attendance, engagement and academic performancedata, working with academic and support teams to intervene early where concernsare identified.
  • Manage a caseload of at-risk students, providingpersonalised support, action plans and referrals to specialist services asappropriate.
  • Track and report on retention and continuation ratesagainst institutional targets and OfS B3 condition requirements, escalatingconcerns to the Dean or Accountable Officer as needed.
2. B. Student Outcomes & OfS Compliance
  • Ensure the College meets its obligations under OfSCondition B3 in relation to student continuation, completion and progressionoutcomes.
  • Work with the Data Analyst to monitor and analysestudent outcome data including continuation, achievement, attainment gaps, andgraduate progression, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
  • Contribute evidence and analysis on student outcomes toTEF submissions, OfS reportable events and regulatory reviews as directed.
  • Support the development and delivery of the College'sAccess and Participation Plan (APP) objectives, with a focus on closingattainment and continuation gaps for underrepresented groups.
  • Maintain accurate records of student interventions,outcomes and support activity to ensure the College can demonstrate impact tothe OfS, auditors and governing body.
  • Act as a first point of contact for studentsexperiencing academic difficulty, personal challenges or transitions, providingguidance, coaching and referral to appropriate support services.
  • Work collaboratively with safeguarding leads, mentalhealth and wellbeing services, disability support and financial guidance teamsto ensure holistic and joined-up student support.
  • Ensure student support processes are inclusive,accessible and sensitive to the diverse needs of the student population,including mature students, international students and those with protectedcharacteristics.
  • Contribute to the Fitness to Study process, supportingthe Dean and relevant committees in cases where a student's capacity to engagewith their studies is in question.
3. D. Academic & Personal Tutoring
  • Oversee and coordinate the College's personal tutoringframework, ensuring academic staff are supported in their pastoralresponsibilities and that students have meaningful access to academic guidance.
  • Develop and deliver training and guidance for academicstaff on identifying and responding to student support needs.
  • Ensure the personal tutoring system is integrated withstudent success monitoring, so that early warning data informs tutorialconversations and interventions.
  • Produce regular reports on student success metrics forthe Dean, SMT and Academic Board, including retention, continuation, attainmentgaps and intervention outcomes.
  • Use data to evaluate the effectiveness of studentsuccess initiatives and recommend improvements to policy, practice andprovision.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of sector developments instudent success, including OfS regulatory updates, TEF criteria changes andbest practice in retention and intervention.
  • Contribute to the College's quality assuranceprocesses, providing student success evidence for annual monitoring,enhancement planning and external reviews.
4. F. Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration
  • Build effective working relationships with academicstaff, programme leads, the Dean, CFOO and student services teams to ensure ajoined-up approach to student success.
  • Engage with the student body to understand barriers tosuccess and co-develop initiatives that improve the student experience andoutcomes.
  • Liaise with external partners, employers andprogression destinations to support student transitions and employabilityoutcomes.
  • Represent the College's student success agenda atrelevant internal committees and external networks as required.
3. Person Specification
  • Degree-level education or equivalent professionalexperience in a student-facing, advisory or support role within higher orfurther education.
  • Demonstrable experience of working with students in asupport, guidance or case management capacity, with evidence of positive impacton student outcomes.
  • Good working knowledge of the OfS regulatory framework,particularly Condition B3 (continuation, completion and progression) and theTEF student outcomes criteria.
  • Strong data literacy - ability to interpret and act onstudent outcome and engagement data to drive evidence-based intervention.
  • Experience of working collaboratively across academicand professional services teams in a higher education environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills withthe ability to engage effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage a caseload,competing priorities and reporting deadlines.
  • Experience contributing to Access and ParticipationPlan delivery or attainment gap initiatives.
  • Familiarity with student record or CRM systems such asSITS, Salesforce or equivalent.
  • Coaching, counselling or mental health first aidqualification.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding frameworks, Fitness to Studyprocesses or student disciplinary procedures in a HE context.
  • Experience preparing student outcome evidence for TEFsubmissions or OfS regulatory reviews.
4. Safeguarding & Additional Information

The post holder is required to uphold the College's safeguarding, Preventduty and data protection policies. This role involves regular contact withvulnerable students and the highest standards of professional conduct,confidentiality and safeguarding awareness are expected at all times. Anenhanced DBS check will be required prior to appointment. Completion ofmandatory safeguarding training is required upon appointment and must be keptcurrent.

The post holder may occasionally be required to work outside of standardhours to support student-facing events, induction activities or retentioninitiatives. Additional responsibilities may be reasonably assigned in supportof the College's student success and OfS compliance objectives.
