The Street Cleaner Driver role in Edinburgh involves operating a cage vehicle to collect waste while also performing hands on street cleansing duties. This full time, temporary position with Pertemps Edinburgh Contracts offers a salary between £14.51 and £16.23 per hour.

Location: Edinburgh East
Pay Rate: £14.51-£16.23 per hour

Working Hours & Shift Patterns

Hours of Work: 4 days on, 4 days off (06:00-17:02, 45 minute break) or Monday to Friday (07:00-14:57, 45 minute break)
Contract: Temporary ongoing
Start Date: Immediate starts available

Role Responsibilities

The role involves supporting the cleansing and upkeep of Edinburgh's streets and public areas while operating a cage vehicle. Duties include:

  • Driving a cage vehicle safely and responsibly across designated routes
  • Carrying out daily vehicle checks and reporting defects in line with health & safety procedures
  • Transporting collected waste to disposal sites
  • Cleaning and servicing city streets and public spaces
  • Sweeping, brushing, and removing leaves and debris
  • Removing weeds from pavements and public areas using manual tools
  • Emptying public litter and waste bins
  • Safe collection, handling, and disposal of waste materials
  • Handling physically demanding tasks including lifting, bending, and repetitive movements
  • Walking long distances throughout shifts
  • Occasional interaction with members of the public
  • Dealing with unpleasant waste, including bodily fluids where required
Qualifications & Requirements

Successful candidates will:

  • Hold a valid UK driving licence (essential)
  • Receive full induction, training, and PPE
  • Be confident driving a cage vehicle in urban environments
  • Be honest, reliable, and punctual
  • Have a strong work ethic and willingness to carry out manual work
  • Be able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Be health and safety conscious
  • Maintain professionalism while working in public environments
