Job Description

Type: Project-Based 12 Months

Syntech Recruitment are partnering with an engineering contractor to recruit experienced Stick Welders (SMAW / MMA) for a major fabrication and installation project in Dublin. This follows on from a live power generation project in Co. Kerry and involves heavy plate welding, structural steelwork, boiler components, pressure vessel and tank fabrication within a formal QA and inspection environment. This is not general fabrication - it is high-specification industrial welding for major multinational clients across oil & gas, power generation and process plant sectors.

Stick Welder (SMAW / MMA) Responsibilities
  • Carry out MMA (Stick / SMAW) welding on heavy plate, structural steelwork and boiler components to high specification
  • Weld pressure vessel shells, tank components and process plant steelwork to formal welding procedures (WPS)
  • Perform multi-run welds - root, fill and cap - to a high and consistent standard in all positions
  • Prepare materials and joints prior to welding - grinding, bevelling and fit-up checks
  • Work from fabrication drawings, general arrangement drawings and welding procedure specifications
  • Ensure correct welding parameters, pre-heat temperatures and consumables are applied at all times
  • Understand and support PWHT (post-weld heat treatment) requirements on applicable materials
  • Visually inspect own welds and support NDT processes - RT and UT inspection regimes in operation
  • Maintain welding documentation and traceability records throughout
  • Work closely with Platers, pipefitters and supervisors during fabrication and installation phases
  • Adhere to all site safety procedures and permit-to-work systems
  • Ensure all work is completed right-first-time to project QA and client inspection standards
Stick Welder (SMAW / MMA) Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years MMA / SMAW welding experience in heavy industrial fabrication or site environments
  • Coded or previously coded MMA welder - ASME IX or BS EN ISO 9606-1 - with evidence of coded work within the last 12 months strongly preferred
  • Proven experience welding heavy plate, pressure vessels, storage tanks or boiler components
  • Experience on power generation, oil & gas, petrochemical or process plant projects - working under formal QA and inspection regimes
  • Competent in all-position welding - overhead, vertical and fixed position essential for this type of work
  • Multi-run welding to radiographic quality standard - understanding of root, fill and cap technique
  • Familiar with WPS requirements, pre-heat procedures and material traceability
  • Understanding of PWHT requirements and how they affect welding sequence and technique
  • Able to visually inspect own welds and support RT/UT NDT activities
  • Familiar with permit-to-work systems and structured EPC project environments
  • Available for immediate start
Highly Desirable
  • Active coded certification - not lapsed
  • TIG welding capability alongside MMA - increases scope significantly on this type of project
  • Boiler work experience - drums, headers, pressure parts or associated steelwork
  • Tank erection welding experience
  • CSCS / Safe Pass / relevant site safety card
  • Experience working to client quality standards for oil & gas or power generation majors
Benefits
  • Immediate start available
  • 12-month project-based contract on a major industrial project in Dublin
  • Opportunity for overtime
  • Lodge depending on location of work
  • Pension contribution
  • Death in service benefit
  • 21 days holidays plus 10 bank holidays
