Staff Nurse - Ophthalmology Theatre 
Full time (37.5 hours per week)
Purpose of RoleThe Registered General Nurse in Theatre will be responsible for delivering high quality, patient centred care to individuals within their designated area(s). The nurse will work within a multidisciplinary team to provide exceptional care in a fast paced, dynamic environment while adhering to best practice guidelines and hospital protocols.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate operating room patients and plans, and implement and document clinical nursing care.
- Ensure all patient documentation is complete in line with hospital policy.
- Promote a patient focused approach to care in collaboration with the health care team.
- Maintain a safe clinical environment.
- Act as an effective member of the surgical team-scrub, circulating or anaesthetic practitioner-demonstrating leadership and communication skills.
- Demonstrate safe and effective infection control practices.
- Carry out all checking processes correctly, thoroughly, and documented, as per hospital policy.
- Work with surgeons to ensure their specific surgical requirements are met, including theatre set up, patient positioning, instrumentation and equipment.
- Stay familiar with the specific care requirements for the clinical speciality and understand how to use equipment safely and effectively.
- Report any malfunctions in a timely manner.
- Assist with ordering supplies and ensure efficient use of resources.
- Function efficiently and effectively in emergency situations.
- Highlight and discuss any concerns with Consultant/Anaesthetist/Senior Nursing management as appropriate.
- Ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
- Communicate effectively with other departments.
- Assist in establishing and monitoring care protocols/pathways.
- Registered or eligible for registration in the General Nurse Division of the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- At least 1-2 years of post registration experience in acute care nursing.
- Previous nursing experience in specialised areas required; please detail experience on your CV.
- Evidence of ongoing continuous professional development.
- Broad knowledge of current nursing research issues pertinent to practice.
- Experience in clinical audit and standard setting.
