The University Hospitals Bristol and Weston Perfusion Department is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated individual to join our department to help provide clinical and professional perfusion services to the multi-disciplinary team at the Bristol Royal Infirmary and Bristol Children's Hospital.
Applicants should be well-organised with a keen interest in teaching and research. You must posses the Accreditation Certificate of the Society of Clinical Perfusion Scientists of Great Britain & Ireland and should be a Licentiate Members of the College of Clinical Perfusion Scientists of Great Britain & Ireland.
Paediatric and ECMO experience are desirable but not essential.
Working hours are 37.5 hours per week over 4 days with additional on call commitment.
Main duties of the job- Take, with appropriate delegation, responsibility for the delivery of a highly specialised perfusion service across the Trust, ensuring that the service is effective and well-coordinated.
- To preferably demonstrate specialist skills, knowledge and expertise in both Adult and Paediatric clinical practice of both CPB and ECMO. Paediatric and ECMO experience not essential. Applying these skills to the supervision and training of others throughout the department and the multidisciplinary team.
- Draw on knowledge of a range of theories to inform practice. Assist in developing strategies for the management and delivery of care for the client group.
- Setting up, priming and running bypass equipment for Adult and Paediatric cardiac surgery procedures, according to the perfusion procedures and protocols and to play a full role in the routine cardiac surgical programme.
- Ensure quality control, calibration and maintenance of expensive and complex medical equipment, ensuring accurate and safe use during clinical procedures.
- To administer drugs, according to local policy and as necessitated by the clinical situation i.e. priming solutions, anticoagulants, inhalational anaesthetic agents, potassium, and cardioplegic solution.
