Salary: £37,552.80 per annum (Grade: FRS E, Salary range: £37,552.80 - £44,856.80). Contract type: Fixed Term until 28/02/2027. Working pattern: Part-time (28 hours per week). Application closing date: 4 PM Tuesday 05 May 2026.
London Fire Brigade (LFB) is London's fire and rescue service - one of the largest firefighting and rescue organisations in the world.
You will provide a comprehensive counselling service covering all aspects of work related, health and personal issues to the staff of a large emergency service. This includes developing effective counselling relationships with staff from a wide range of cultural backgrounds and applying CBT and trauma focused modalities as recommended by NICE.
Qualifications- PG Diploma level or equivalent in Counselling, Psychotherapy or Psychology.
- Current BACP accreditation (or equivalent).
- Minimum 5 years' post qualifying experience working with a diverse client group, dealing with a wide range of presenting problems.
- Experience using CBT and/or other short term focused models of counselling.
- Knowledge and experience working with trauma related issues, including PTSD.
- At least a Diploma in Counselling or equivalent.
- Current BACP accreditation (or equivalent).
- LFB staff on probation are not eligible.
Stage 1 involves submitting an online application, uploading a CV and providing evidence to meet the selection criteria. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to Stage 2, where the assessment will take place mid/late May 2026.

Employment checks will be completed in line with the Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). This will include a criminal records check. Successful candidates will be required to declare any convictions for offences that are not spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Enhanced check will be undertaken before an appointment is confirmed.
