Sustainability

At Queen Victoria Hospital we want to be the first Net Zero Hospital in England, and to achieve that wants every member of staff to be a green champion. The way in which the Trust works has a significant impact on the organisation's carbon footprint and that of our patients. From the heat, light and power supplies within the hospital to avoiding unnecessary patient journeys, the Trust is empowering all staff to create a sustainable health and care environment for future generations. The Trust expects all staff to reuse and recycle more, to use energy and water efficiently, to walk or cycle to work if you can, and to have a focus on sustainability in the workplace.

Queen Victoria NHS Foundation Trust are looking for a 10 PA Specialty Doctor with a special interest in Skin and Hand Trauma.

This post has come out at a remarkable period in the service's growth, where the Specialty Doctor role will come to take on a key role in unlocking the service's potential to deliver more specialist services for patients in Kent, Surrey and Sussex.

The successful candidate will need to be an individual who has skills in the diagnosis and surgical management of skin cancers, as well as assessing and treating Hand Trauma patients. The post will be primarily based at Queen Victoria Hospital, within the second largest Plastic Surgery Department in the country and to support the spoke site skin cancer services in Kent and Sussex.

There is scope for an individual to pursue their special interests within general plastic surgery, however, service need will need to take priority.

The outline job plan is enclosed in the job description, containing 10 sessions of PAs, with 1 of SPA.

Main duties of the job

The Specialty Doctor post is a non-training post for practitioners specialising in Plastic Surgery and who have experience of Hand Trauma.

The Specialty Doctor will predominantly support the Skin and Hand Trauma Services. If an individual has a special interest in another area of Plastic Surgery as well, then the service is happy to consider how the individual may pursue these interests whilst also balancing them with service need.

The areas that the Specialty Doctor will be required to provide consistent support with will be covering Hand Trauma. The requirement will be that this individual organises the Business Unit's trauma for the day, providing oversight to the junior doctors, working with the Site Team and Trauma Co-ordinators and the wards, and actively operating on trauma patients where appropriate. It is worth noting that the Specialty Doctor will be directly supported on each day Trauma day by a Complex Hand Surgeon, who will be taking care of the more complex Hand Trauma cases on the day.

The Specialty Doctor will also be expected to cover off-site commitments, which are of paramount importance for ensuring that patients have access to tertiary Plastic Surgery Services in Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
