A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a specialty doctor to gain experience in the field Learning Disabilities and Autism. This is currently a fixed term post enabling a candidate to get enough experience with an excellent multidisciplinary team, supporting our population within the beautiful county of Northumberland.
We expect a candidate who is happy working within a collegiate team, and is enthusiastic and relatively autonomous. We will offer support and supervision within the role and help the candidate develop their skills.

Main duties of the job- Day-today clinical work
- Assessment, treatment and management of patients referred to the services. The doctor's work will be supervised by a consultant psychiatrist.
- Attending and contributing to MDT meetings.
- Multidisciplinary team working will be essential; collaborating with all the MDT members, referrers and secondary care clinicians regarding the care of patients in the community
- To work collaboratively with other Senior Clinical Colleagues in the community team.
- To take a lead role in service improvements and development.
- To contribute to ongoing training and development programme within the teams.
- Administrative responsibilities include appropriate documentation as required within the Trust systems.
- The job will involve 9 Direct Clinical Care PAs and 1 PAs dedicated to supporting you in your professional activities including continuous professional development. There will be a flexibility in discussing special interest, participation in research or audit through medical job planning process.

Job responsibilities- The job entails offering medical cover to the team, who primarily manages people via nursing and psychological methods.
- Reviewing medication and ensuring the right monitoring is undertaken.
- Aiding with formulation and direction of care plans.
- Attending to emergency situations
- Taking part in multidisciplinary meetings and helping with the organization of these
- Offering supervision to more junior doctors and to colleagues within the team when required/appropriate
- Having a role within service improvement and development.

Person Specification Qualifications and Training- MBBS (or equivalent)
- Registration with the GMC (or eligible to become registered) with a licence to practice
- MRCPsych or equivalent qualification
- Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field
- Has undergone training in educational supervision
- Has undergone training in appraisal
- Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
- Approved Clinician Status
- Up to date knowledge in the field of psychiatry
- Awareness of current issues and controversies in service provision, mental health policy and legislation
- Minimum of 4 years full-time postgraduate training including 2 years work experience in psychiatry
- Experience of multidisciplinary team working
- Wide clinical experience in psychiatry in different clinical settings
- Experience in multi agency work especially with service user, carer and voluntary agencies
- Experience in service management or development
- Experience of clinical audit
- High level of clinical skills
- Able to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Proven competence in diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders
- Good teaching skills
- Ability to work in a time efficient manner
- Established record of clinical leadership
- Established ability as a clinical teacher
- Training in specific and relevant treatment skills eg a brief form of psychological therapy
- Able to sustain self and support others
- Trustworthiness, maturity, openness and flexibility
- Able to meet the mobility requirements of the post
