Job Description

Part-time,fixed term 12 months to cover shared parental leave

Salary Upto 72,656.79 per annum, pro rata 90,821 per annum, full time equivalent

Hours: Up to 30 hours per week - 8 sessions

Main duties of the job

Toprovide day to day medical care, in conjunction with the multi-disciplinaryteam, to patients and their carer's for all clinical services within KatharineHouse Hospice.

To admit new patients to the Inpatient Unitjointly with the nursing staff

To review patients in the Therapies and WellbeingUnit when needed

To liaise with GPs, consultants and wider clinicalMDT regarding patient care

To undertake patient-related administration suchas discharge letters and referrals as required

To liaise with the Medical Examiner to completedeath certificates, completecremation forms and liaise with the Coroner when needed

To participate in under-graduate medical studentteaching, junior doctor training, and in-house teaching ward rounds

To take part in clinical governance within thehospice and contribute to the senior clinicians team of staff involved inclinical project work

About us

Katharine House Hospice is a registered charity with an 8-beddedIn-Patient unit, a Therapies and Wellbeing Unit with outpatient services, aHospice at Home Service, and a Lymphoedema Clinic. We are looking to recruit adoctor(s) to provide day to day medical care, in conjunction with themulti-disciplinary team, to patients and their carers for all clinical service

Katharine House Hospice is keen to promote palliative medicine in thewider community and is involved in undergraduate medical education to studentsfrom both Keele and Birmingham Universities and also offers educational supportto resident doctors at the University Hospital of North Midlands. We have anactive audit programme and new research strategy in place.

We help local adults withcomplex, progressive illnesses from diagnosis to the end of life through free,high quality, specialist palliative care, advice and guidance, and we supportthose close to them.

Job Purpose in Outline

To review daily and manage the medical care of the existing patientsin the Inpatient Unit,

To admit new patients to the Inpatient Unit jointly with the nursingstaff

To review patients in the Therapies and Wellbeing Unit when needed

To liaise with GPs, consultants and wider clinical MDT regardingpatient care

To undertake patient-related administration such as dischargeletters and referrals as required

To liaise with the Medical Examiner to complete death certificates,complete cremation forms and liaisewith the Coroner when needed

To participate in under-graduate medical student teaching, juniordoctor training, and in-house teaching ward rounds

To take part in clinical governance within the hospice andcontribute to the senior clinicians team of staff involved in clinicalproject work

To provideday to day medical care, in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team,to patients and their carers for all clinical services within KatharineHouse Hospice. Including:

Jointadmission of patients to the inpatient unit with the nursing team

Allaspects of clinical care whilst on the inpatient unit

Liaisewith patients general practitioner and consultant(s) regarding theirprevious and on-going medical care

Undertakepatient-related administration to ensure successful discharge e.g.discharge letters, advance care planning documents and take homemedications and community authorisations

Take partin the weekend on call rota for the inpatient unit

Attend dailymulti-disciplinary team patient handover meetings.

Toparticipate in research/evaluation, clinical governance and auditactivities that contribute to the development of evidence-based practiceand high standards of clinical care. To attend senior clinicians meetings.

Contributeto teaching and training sessions, both formal and informal, which aid thedevelopment of clinical knowledge within the multi-disciplinary team. Toassist in teaching of medical students and doctors in training asrequired.

Asrequired, attend and contribute to the weekly whole hospice multi-disciplinaryteam review of patients.

Develop andmaintain communication with other agencies involved in the provision ofpalliative care to patients and their carers thereby contributing to thedelivery of co-ordinated and appropriate care for individuals referred tothe hospice.

To liaise with the Medical Examiner to complete death certificatesand, as necessary, complete cremation forms and liaise with the Coroner.

Work withsenior nursing staff to ensure that hospice referrals are managedappropriately and sensitively.

Toparticipate in the annual appraisal process.

Infection Prevention and Control

Inaccordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008, the post holder willactively participate in the prevention and control of infection within thecapacity of their role. The Act requiresthe post holder to attend infection prevention and control training oninduction and at regular updates and to take responsibility for the practicalapplication of the training in the course of their work. Infection prevention and control must beincluded in any personal development plan or appraisal.

Thehospice has a no smoking policy. All hospice premises are considered No SmokingZones
