Applications are invited for the post of Specialty Doctor in the Oncology Service, based at University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB). This role will be primarily based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, with occasional cross-site working across other hospital sites including Good Hope Hospital, Solihull Hospital, and Heartlands Hospital.
Main duties of the jobThe successful candidate will work within an innovative and supportive team comprising Consultant Oncologists, Specialty Registrars, Physician Associates, Specialty Doctors, Junior Doctors, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Nurses, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, and Pharmacists, supported by dedicated administrative teams. The team values innovation and provides holistic, coordinated care for patients across the Birmingham region. The Specialty Doctor will work independently and autonomously, managing their own patient caseload and collaborating with healthcare professionals from acute and tertiary specialties to deliver high-quality patient care. The role offers experience in radiotherapy, systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT), and Acute Oncology, along with associated teaching sessions.

Job responsibilitiesUHB's Oncology service offers a broad range of systemic anti-cancer treatments and radiotherapy. Consultant-led clinics are conducted both face-to-face and virtually across dedicated Oncology/Haematology units at QEHB, BHH, GHH, and SHH. Facilities support chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and supportive treatments. Inpatient Oncology care is provided across all sites, supported by the Acute Oncology Service (AOS) and Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP) service. QEHB has dedicated inpatient wards for elective and emergency treatments, as well as a Young Persons Unit (YPU).
Person Specification Qualifications- Full registration with the GMC with a license to practice.
- Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice.
- Eligibility to live and work in the UK.
- Medical Degree from a recognized university.
- Minimum of 4 years post-full registration clinical experience, including at least 24 months within Oncology.
- Completion of ST1/CT1 and ST2/CT2 or equivalent experience.
- Ability to verify complete employment history details.
- Foundation training completed with appropriate experience.
- Demonstrated commitment to Oncology as a specialty.
This position is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. A disclosure check will be carried out through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to review any criminal convictions.
Salary range: £59,175 to £95,400 per year, dependent on experience.
