Speciality Doctor Anaesthetics

We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join the Anaesthetics and ITU team at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust. This is a substantive Specialty Doctor role, in line with the Specialty Doctor Contract 2021. The successful candidate will work within our on call rotas covering CEPOD, Obstetrics and Intensive Care. There will be the opportunity to cover elective surgical lists across the spectrum of clinical anaesthesia in a district general hospital during their time within the department. The duties will include pre, intra and post operative management of surgical patients, assisting with the care of the patients on the ITU, a full range of obstetric anaesthesia and on call work, including resuscitation calls. This post will offer training opportunities as per the Royal College of Anaesthetists and the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine training guidance.

Main duties of the job

Provide expert clinical care in Anaesthetics and Critical Care Medicine, including elective theatre lists, emergencies, day time critical care medical cover, outpatient clinics for high risk anaesthetic clinics, and on call services. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case discussions in hospital and community settings. Contribute to the development and implementation of integrated clinical guidelines and protocols. Supervise and support junior resident medical staff. Engage in clinical audit, quality improvement, and research activities. Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation. Collaborate with colleagues across departments and external partners.

Job responsibilities

The majority of your clinical time during working hours will be allocated to elective and emergency/trauma theatre sessions, sometimes under the supervision of a more Senior Anaesthetist, but with appropriate experience will be expected to undertake a list without direct supervision.

The duties will include pre, intra and post operative management of surgical patients, assisting with care of the patients on the ICU, and provision of assistance with resuscitation calls.

The post holder may be involved in teaching and supervision of other doctors and medical students, nurses and other healthcare professionals.

The post holder will be expected to participate in all aspects of the on call rotas. The department manages three tiers of cover - Theatre, Obstetrics and ITU and rotation through any and all of these disciplines is expected of the candidate, as required to meet the needs of the department. All rotas are EWTD compliant in line with the 2016 Junior Doctor Contract and 2019 amendments to this contract.

Experience
  • Experience in anaesthetic training in the UK or equivalent overseas experience
