Job description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Dyslexia Tutor (Specialist Study Skills Tutor) to join our dedicated student support team and provide high-quality, specialist support to disabled students, particularly those with dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties. The role will involve working directly with students to develop personalised strategies, skills and approaches that enable them to overcome barriers to learning, engage confidently with their studies and achieve their academic potential. We are looking for someone who:
  • Has specialist knowledge and experience of supporting students with dyslexia, specific learning difficulties and/or other disabilities within a higher education setting.
  • Has a relevant professional qualification or substantial experience in delivering specialist study-skills support to disabled learners.
  • Can assess individual students' needs and develop personalised, practical strategies to support their learning and academic progress.
  • Has a strong understanding of the barriers that disabled students can experience in higher education and the principles of inclusive practice and reasonable adjustments.
  • Can provide effective one-to-one support across areas such as organisation, planning, time management, reading, writing, note-taking, concentration, memory and study strategies.
  • Is able to build positive, trusting relationships with students and provide support that is empowering, respectful and focused on developing student independence.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, academic colleagues and professional services.
  • Can manage a varied caseload effectively, prioritise competing demands and maintain accurate and confidential records.
  • Is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and to reducing barriers to disabled students' success.
  • Can contribute positively to a collaborative team and support the continued development of an effective, responsive and student-centred specialist support service.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to disabled student success, helping students to overcome barriers, engage fully in university life and achieve their academic potential.

Please note that the University may ask you to participate in a number of selection activities as part of the recruitment process for this vacancy.

Interviews will take place in person, on campus.

Interviews will take place on 30 November 2026.
