Specialist Stroke Dietitian

We are offering an exciting secondment opportunity for a highly motivated HCPC registered Band 6 Specialist Stroke Dietitian to join our Dietetics Team base at the Haywood Hospital in Stoke on Trent.

You will be part of the Haywood Allied Health Professionals (AHP) portfolio and support the team lead of the Haywood Dietetics Service, undertaking a specialist role within the stroke inpatient service and D2A beds within the Haywood and community hospitals.

This is a varied role which will require you to work predominantly in the Haywood hospital but with some work across other community hospital sites and settings, such as nursing homes as service demands require.

You will hold and manage a specialist clinical case load within the Stroke rehab ward at the Haywood and support with the community hospitals wards whilst also working closely with the team lead and other dietetic teams across MPFT. You will collaborate with the wider multidisciplinary teams including Rehabilitation teams, D2A teams, community stroke, Social care Teams, Community Intermediate Care, Respiratory Teams and Diabetes Teams.

Main duties of the job

You will be part of a friendly and supportive dietetic team working within the stroke specialist rehab team, who hold a wide range of expertise and experience. As a specialist Dietitian you will focus on nutrition support, enteral feeding & therapeutic dietetics with the stroke and D2A wards.

  • Provide specialist dietetic assessment and treatment for stroke patients within the hospital rehabilitation settings, using evidence-based practice.
  • Develop and implement individualised nutrition care plans, including enteral feeding regimes, following local and national guidelines.
  • Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to support safe and effective nutritional management for patients with swallowing difficulties and support with safe discharge planning.
  • Contribute to service development, clinical audit and quality improvement projects.
  • Support education and training for staff, patients, and carers on nutritional care post-stroke.
  • Supervise and mentor junior dietitians and dietetic students.

Qualifications
  • Dietitian with relevant BSc, postgraduate diploma or masters
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council
  • Clinical supervisory skills training

  • Member of the British Dietetic Association
  • Membership of relevant special interest groups (BDA or other)
