Specialist Podiatrist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Podiatrist to join the Podiatry Service.
The post holder will be responsible for delivering high-quality assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients presenting with a range of foot and lower limb conditions. This will include developing and implementing individualised treatment plans for patients with a wide variety of clinical needs, including acute or chronic neuropathies, chronic diseases, vascular problems and wound management.
The role will involve working as part of a multidisciplinary team across the acute, community and outpatient settings, contributing to the safe, effective and efficient delivery of podiatry services. The post holder will be expected to manage a defined caseload, prioritising patients based on clinical need and service demands.
In addition, the post holder will support the wider team by contributing to service development, audit and quality improvement activities. They will also provide guidance and support to junior staff, assistants and students where appropriate, helping to maintain high standards of care.

Main duties of the job- To assess, diagnose, develop and implement individualised treatment programmes for patients presenting with a wide range of foot and lower limb conditions,
- To plan and manage their own caseload, which will consist of a range ofpatients, such as those with chronic disease, vascular risk, neuropathy or wound care needs, depending on service requirements.
- To provide an efficient, effective and consistently high-quality podiatry service, working independently across community and clinic settings.
- To support the smooth day-to-day running of clinical sessions, including maintaining a safe clinical environment, ensuring appropriate stock levels, and reporting any equipment or environmental issues in line with local procedures.
- To contribute to service delivery by managing appointment capacity effectively, maintaining accurate clinical records and sharing relevant information with senior staff to support service planning and performance.
- To work within professional and organisational policies, maintaining high standards of clinical care, infection prevention and health and safety.

The Podiatry Department is a well-established, multidisciplinary team of 29 staff, including podiatrists, assistants, technicians and clinical leads, working across a range of roles.
The service delivers care across Stockport from multiple clinical settings, including community clinics, GP practices, Stepping Hill Hospital and patients homes.
We provide a broad range of specialist podiatry services, including high-risk foot care, MSK assessment and treatment (adult and paediatric), nail surgery, urgent care clinics and patient education programmes. The team works closely with multidisciplinary services such as diabetes, vascular and orthopaedic teams, including the High Risk Foot Team, to support integrated patient care.

Person Specification Education & Qualifications- BSc Podiatry or Podiatry Diploma pre 1993
- Registered with Health Profession Council.
- Member of the professional body
- Certificate in local anaesthesia
- Specialist professional knowledge acquired through post registration CPD, notably nail surgery, biomechanics, wound care, dermatology, vascular assessment and diabetes.
- Above average knowledge of medical conditions to assist in diagnosis gained through CPD
- Demonstrable knowledge of clinical audit
- Paediatrics
- Knowledge of various dressings and their suitability
- Understand wound classification systems
- Delegation of duties to Podiatry Assistant
- Offloading and casting skills
- Previous experience in managing MSK Pod
- Good understanding of NHS policy, local health strategies and relevant NICE guidelines
- To have attended a clinical educators course
- Knowledge of the working of community
- Experience of supervision of students and assistants
- Able to work unsupervised in designated areas
- Exceptional diagnostic skills
- Flexibility in handling work pressures
- Well motivated with a positive attitude to developing the Service
- Able to work flexibly as a member of multi-disciplinary and Podiatry team to meet the needs of the service
- Physical effort includes manual handling skills
- Working in some confined spaces on domiciliary visits
- Driver with access to a car for work purposes
