Job Description
Overview

Specialist Nurse - Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). This is a cross-site post within MFT, band 6/7. The closing date is 22 September 2025.

We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic nurse to join the Nurse Heart Rhythm Service at MFT. The post requires cardiology nursing experience and an interest in the specialty of heart rhythm management. Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to demonstrate a high level of communication skills in dealing with patients/relatives having had out of hospital cardiac arrest, acute and chronic CRM disease and end of life.

Provide highly specialist knowledge and information on advanced cardiac devices such as Permanent Pacemaker (PPM), Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD), Cardiac Re-synchronisation Therapy - Pacemaker (CRT-P) and Cardiac Re-synchronisation Therapy - Defibrillator (CRT-D).

Effectively communicate with the multi-disciplinary team regarding all aspects of CRM, including liaising with consultants, registrars, GP's, Cardiac Physiologists, Nurse Practitioners, Heart Failure team, Cardiac Rehabilitation team, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, cardiology departments, Coronary Care Unit/ward staff and secretarial/support staff, all to achieve a coordinated, comprehensive service.

Demonstrate a high level of skill in dealing with conflict, anger, depression and other emotions related to patients with cardiac rhythm abnormalities.

Develop and demonstrate advanced skills in planning, organising and delivering elective cardioversion (DCCV) lists, triaging patient symptoms, delivering DCCV service in a timely and effective manner.

Develop and demonstrate advanced skills in planning, organising and performing Ajmaline Challenge tests.

Demonstrate advanced skills in organising and planning teaching sessions on all aspects of CRM.

Person Specification Qualifications/Education
  • Registered General Nurse (RGN)
  • ENB 998 or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Health related degree/masters level or working towards
  • Evidence of further education related to CRM
Experience
  • Experience at Band 5 in cardiology
  • Demonstrates broad knowledge base of Cardiology
  • Able to demonstrate evidence of interest in heart rhythm management
  • Worked within acute CCU/Cardiology ward/ Catheter Laboratory/Day Case ward
  • Experience of working within Outpatient clinic
Knowledge
  • Willingness to undertake training (3 year timescale) to achieve highly specialised knowledge of all aspects of Cardiac Rhythm Management to an advanced level, including management of life threatening and non-life threatening arrhythmias (e.g., Advanced Life Support (ALS), Advanced Clinical Assessment Skills, Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification).

  • Demonstrate knowledge of ongoing research and development relating to CRM
