Job Description

We are partnering with a leading European special situations investment firm managing $2bn+ in assets across both primary and secondary markets. The platform focuses on complex, event-driven opportunities in stressed, distressed, and transitional capital structures. The firm is seeking an experienced Investment Director with a strong background in origination and execution of special situations transactions.

The ideal candidate will bring a proven track record of sourcing and structuring bespoke capital solutions in non-standard scenarios such as liquidity-driven deals, rescue financing, corporate transitions, and off-the-run credit. Fluency in one or more European languages is highly advantageous.

Origination & Business Development

  • Drive sourcing of special situations investments across Europe, particularly in off-market or complex situations.
  • Leverage a strong network of advisors, intermediaries, and counterparties to originate proprietary deal flow.
  • Engage with corporates, stakeholders, and legal professionals to identify mispriced or transitional opportunities.
  • Conduct market intelligence and sector-specific mapping to identify target companies or assets.
  • Represent the firm externally and support broader branding and relationship-building efforts.
  • Mentor junior investment team members and guide their development.

Deal Structuring & Underwriting

  • Lead the structuring of bespoke, flexible capital solutions including rescue financings, structured equity, hybrid capital, and secondary purchases.
  • Conduct deep credit and capital structure analysis, often in opaque or distressed situations.
  • Identify legal, operational, and market risks; work closely with restructuring advisors and legal counsel.
  • Prepare investment memoranda, committee presentations, and internal risk assessments.
  • Manage due diligence across commercial, financial, legal, and operational areas.

Execution & Portfolio Management

  • Own the execution process from term sheet to close, including negotiations and stakeholder engagement.
  • Coordinate with advisors, internal teams, and external counsel to ensure timely execution of complex transactions.
  • Actively participate in portfolio monitoring, governance, and strategic decision-making post-investment.
  • Help manage value recovery and monetization strategies, including exits and restructurings.
