Job Description
Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to apply for this newly created Locum Consultant post to support the Electrophysiology service at NHS Grampian. The post-holder will be joining a team of eleven Cardiologists. This post is offered on a Locum contract for 6 months.

The successful applicant will be based in the Department of Cardiology, at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Aberdeen. NHS Grampian serves a population of 620,000, including patients from NHS Orkney and NHS Shetland. The Department is part of the Acute Services directorate, Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, NHS Grampian.

The Electrophysiology service undertakes both simple and complex atrial ablation, as well as complex ventricular ablation, performing approximately 250 ablations per year. Complex ablation is supported by the Carto mapping system. Cryoablation and two Pulsed Field Ablation systems (Varipulse, Pulse Select) are also available for pulmonary vein isolation. The service is well supported by a team of highly qualified and experienced Cardiac Physiologists, an Arrhythmia Nurse Specialist and Cardiothoracic Anaesthetists.

Complex device implantation including leadless pacing, left bundle area pacing, CRT, transvenous and subcutaneous defibrillator implantation also takes place, as well as simple brady pacing.

The wider Cardiology department provides elective and acute coronary intervention including a 24 hour primary PCI service. There is a busy Echocardiography Department, performing Transthoracic, Transoesphageal, contrast, Bubble and 3D Echo, All advanced cardiac imaging modalities are also readily available on the Foresterhill site, including Coronary CT, Cardiac MRI, PET, myocardial perfusion scintigraphy, and DPD scanning for cardiac amyloid.

The in-patient Cardiac Department consists of a 10 bedded Coronary Care Unit and a 30 bedded in-patient Cardiology ward, both contained within the new Emergency Care Centre. There is also a 16 bedded day case ward adjacent to the Cardiac Catheterisation labs. There are currently two state of the art Cardiac Catheter Laboratories, with plans in place for a third lab.
