Solution Architect - 6-month Contract

Willis Re is building its global technology estate from the ground up, centered on data, analytics, and modern cloud platforms. We are looking for a Solution Architect to shape and deliver the solutions that power our reinsurance broking, analytics, and client-facing platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Design secure, scalable, cloud-native solutions on Microsoft Azure, encompassing infrastructure, PaaS services, networking, identity, security, and observability.
• Architect data-lake platforms, designing performant pipelines, sound data models, and strong governance for large volumes of reinsurance placement, exposure, claims, and market data.
• Build proofs of concept and prototypes to validate designs and support technical decisions.
• Define and govern third-party integrations with market platforms, carrier and client systems, and vendor SaaS products using API-first, event-driven, and secure data-exchange patterns, canonical data models, and anti-corruption layers.
• Embed security and compliance from the outset, covering zero-trust principles, authentication and authorization (Entra ID, OAuth 2.0), data protection, residency, and auditability in collaboration with security and risk teams.
• Lead engineering standards for a greenfield estate, guiding in-house and partner engineers and acting as lead engineer where needed.
• Produce high-quality solution designs, integration contracts, and architecture artifacts; present designs and vet those from vendors and delivery partners on the Architecture Review Board.
• Promote AI-assisted engineering tools and practices across the delivery lifecycle.

About You

• Extensive experience (4+ years) in software engineering progressing into solution architecture, with hands on design of data-intensive systems, ideally in insurance, reinsurance, or financial services.
• Strong programming skills in C#/.NET or Python, solid SQL knowledge, and experience with modern UI frameworks such as React or Angular with TypeScript.
• Hands-on infrastructure-as-code experience (Terraform) and Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions for CI/CD.
• Azure expertise across networking, security, identity, compute, and integration services.
• Deep knowledge of architectural patterns: microservices, event-driven, API-led, lakehouse/medallion, domain-driven design.
• Experience designing large data-volume solutions across cloud data platforms, pipelines, and SQL-based technologies.
• Proficiency in integration with external systems via REST APIs, messaging, event-driven architectures, secure file exchange, and use of canonical data models and anti-corruption layers.
• Strong foundation in security architecture, including authentication and authorization (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, Entra ID, RBAC), zero-trust principles, and compliance in regulated financial services.
• Knowledge of AI-enabled or agentic solutions (retrieval-augmented generation, tool and API integration, human-in-the-loop) is a plus.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder influence skills, translating complex business requirements into pragmatic designs.
