Join a fast-growing FinTech team as a Software Engineer and help shape the future of secure, compliant financial technology!
About the role:
As a Software Engineer you'll build and maintain critical backend systems for compliance processes like transaction monitoring, anti-money laundering, and secure onboarding. You'll work in a dynamic fintech environment, shaping event-driven microservices architecture (Kotlin & TypeScript) and collaborating on the dashboard. Take ownership of distributed systems, influence design, and join a growing team evolving into specialized pillars-all in a fast-paced, innovative startup.
What you'll be doing:
- You take ownership of complex backend components within the team, focusing on transaction monitoring, anti-money laundering (AML) measures, and customer onboarding processes.
- You contribute to redesigning and maturing microservices, helping transition to event-driven architectures and improving the scalability and reliability of our systems.
- You are responsible for solving technical issues, writing high-quality code, and contributing to system design and architecture within a growing and dynamic fintech team.
- You support the integration of external parties for onboarding and compliance, ensuring secure storage and processing of customer data and seamless collaboration with third parties.
- You work closely with other engineers and tech leads to improve the dashboard and customer experience, taking on fullstack tasks but with a clear focus on backend development.
- You contribute to the continuous improvement of our cloud infrastructure in Google Cloud, with attention to security, backups, and compliance with regulations such as DORA and MiCAR.
- You actively participate in the team process, also taking on smaller tasks and thinking along about further division and specialization within the engineering team.
What we're looking for:
- A strong background in backend development, preferably with experience in Kotlin, Java, or TypeScript, and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new programming languages and technologies.
- Proven experience working with distributed systems and microservices architectures, with a solid understanding of event-driven workflows and system communication complexities.
- Ability to independently take ownership of tasks and projects, from identifying issues to delivering solutions, demonstrating responsibility and proactive problem-solving skills.
- Enthusiasm for fintech and compliance-related domains, including transaction monitoring, anti-money laundering (AML), and know your customer (KYC) processes, with a genuine interest in building secure and compliant financial software.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset, capable of working effectively in a small, growing team environment where flexibility and willingness to contribute beyond core responsibilities are essential.
What you'll need:
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a software engineer, preferably with exposure to FullStack development.
- Strong affinity with backend development, with Kotlin, Java, or TypeScript (Node.js).
- Experience independently tackling and solving technical issues, including ownership and responsibility within projects.
- Knowledge of and experience with distributed systems and microservices architectures is a plus.
- Interest in fintech and compliance-related topics such as transaction monitoring, anti-money laundering (AML), and customer onboarding (KYC).
- Willingness to work at least three days per week in the office in the Netherlands.
- Good communication skills in Dutch and/or English.
- Proactive and eager-to-learn attitude, with the ability to quickly master new technologies and concepts.
- Willingness to contribute to system design and architecture.
- Affinity with event-driven workflows and cloud environments, preferably experience with Google Cloud.
- Flexibility to also take on smaller tasks within a growing and dynamic team.
- Living in the Netherlands.
What we can offer:
- A dynamic and growing fintech environment where you can contribute to building innovative solutions in a fast-evolving industry.
- The opportunity to work in a close-knit, ambitious engineering team focused on compliance, client experience, and cutting-edge event-driven architectures.
- Competitive salary with flexibility for strong senior candidates.
- A hybrid working model with a minimum of three days per week at the office to foster collaboration and team cohesion.
- The chance to grow your expertise in distributed systems, microservices, and cloud infrastructure within a fintech context.
- A culture that values enthusiasm, ownership, and a willingness to learn and adapt in a startup-like environment with exciting challenges.
