Software Development Manager

We are currently seeking a Software Development Manager to join our Engineering team in or near Dublin. You will be expected to be in the office a minimum of twice per week on one of our Anchor Days.

Role Overview

For Development Managers, this means supporting and growing your people, executing strongly as a team and as a triad (the teams Designer + Product + Development Manager leadership group), building solid technical solutions, and maintaining a hands on technical presence that includes coding, designing and reviewing alongside your team. You coach and build your teams to be strong technically and strong as people, creating a safe and productive environment for all Clions.

Day in the Life

• Collaborate with your triad to understand business challenges, identify impactful opportunities, and craft a roadmap for the team.
• Work with your team on designing technical solutions.
• Give feedback on code reviews, architecture documents, and other artifacts to help team members make sound technical decisions.
• Actively contribute to the project, either through code reviews or shipping code.
• Hold 1:1 meetings with direct reports to support their career growth and development goals.
• Participate in hiring to grow the engineering team at Clio.
• Review code contributed by team members or other Clio developers seeking your expertise on technologies or patterns.

• Demonstrated success in people leadership in software development, particularly with large scale SaaS products.
• A strong background in hands on software development.
• A diverse base of knowledge that enables you to help your team solve complex technical problems.
• The ability to describe successful projects you worked on and lessons learned from failures.
• Proven ability to hire, coach, develop, and retain engineering talent in a fast paced market.
• Strong political skill to hold opinions weakly and foster the same attitude in others.
• Ability to give honest, actionable feedback and encourage reciprocal feedback from the team.
• Skill in devising roadmaps that guide, but are not rigidly followed in a constantly changing world.
• Growth mindset toward process improvement and new technologies, especially AI.

Serious bonus points if you have:

• A philosophy on what makes for great software development teams.
• Experience with CRM products at scale.
• Experience with Ruby on Rails or Python.

The expected salary range for this role is €111,400 to €167,200 EUR. Salary bands vary by region and are designed to reflect the range of skills and experience needed for the position.
