Social Housing Assessment and Lettings Officer
- Rate of pay: £21.41 PAYE or £28.19 Umbrella
- Location: Hybrid (3 days a week in the office)
- Job Type: Full-time temp till August 2026 with possible extension
We are seeking a dedicated Social Housing Assessment and Lettings Officer. This role is crucial for investigating and assessing housing applications under various housing acts, managing the choice-based lettings service, and contributing to the optimal use of housing stock. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring efficient housing allocation and maintaining high service standards.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Investigate and assess all housing applications in accordance with relevant legislation, including conducting interviews, making enquiries, and performing home visits.
- Prioritise applicants and manage the allocation process in line with policy, including writing decision letters and handling appeals.
- Support the management of the choice-based lettings system, including property advertising and applicant bidding.
- Coordinate with the Housing Management Team on various housing processes such as mutual exchanges and tenancy terminations.
- Provide comprehensive advice to households about their housing options and the implications of their choices.
- Maintain accurate records and data on housing applications and allocations using various IT systems.
- Handle enquiries and complaints from clients and professionals, ensuring all communications are managed effectively.
- Engage in project work and initiatives aimed at improving housing services and meeting strategic objectives.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience in housing needs assessment and a strong understanding of relevant legislation (Housing Act 1985, Housing Act 1996 Part VI, etc.).
- Ability to effectively communicate and negotiate, managing complex situations and maintaining positive relationships.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a diverse workload and meet tight deadlines in a pressurised environment.
- IT proficiency, particularly in using housing management systems and databases.

- Standard DBS check required.
