Job Description

As a Senior Manager within the Economic Crime Advisory & Oversight team, you'll be focused on advising, overseeing and challenging Nationwide functions on how they manage the risks associated with bribery and corruption, facilitation of tax evasion, internal fraud and failure to prevent fraud. You will be supported by a small team and alongside other teams within Economic Crime Advisory & Oversight.

The role is part of the broader Economic Crime Risk and Compliance team, which is a key part of Nationwide's Second Line of Defence. Based in the Risk function, we are responsible for ensuring the Society delivers its strategy in a safe and controlled way, appropriately balancing risk, regulatory requirements and customer experience.

What you'll be doing

You will be responsible for providing leadership of economic crime advisory activities and for supporting and implementing the strategy through which economic crime risk and compliance obligations are delivered across Nationwide. This includes developing the advisory and oversight approach to the new corporate criminal offence of Failure to Prevent Fraud.

You will, with the support of your team, deliver deep, expert advice, oversight, support and challenge on how Nationwide designs and operates critical processes and controls to ensure risks, issues and non-compliance are reported, escalated and governed through robust mitigation plans.

You will, with your team, support the roll out, socialisation and impact assessment of updates to the Economic Crime Policy and Minimum Controls Standards.

Using your leadership skills, you will support your teams' personal development to help them realise their potential, as well as supporting in the leadership of the Advisory and Oversight team.

About you

At minimum you will have:

Theoretical and practical knowledge and experience in managing economic crime risk, specifically focused on bribery & corruption, facilitation of tax evasion, failure to prevent fraud and internal fraud. This includes an understanding of related UK legislation, regulation, and industry best practice and developments in this area.

Strong understanding of risk management principles and practices and the design of effective controls, including how technology, and people can be deployed to manage economic crime risk.

Confidence working with people at all levels and building relationships with senior leaders and their teams.

Strong communication and networking skills, both written and verbal, with ability to influence and negotiate and learn new information quickly and to seek further guidance when required.

Finally, and importantly, experience of people leadership with the ability to coach, train and motivate SMEs to set and achieve targets and high-performance levels.
