Job Description
Job Summary 
As a Control Room Operator in the Wastewater Control team, you are the first line of defence in identifying and responding to operational issues across our network, protecting customers from flooding and safeguarding the environment.
Responsibilities- Monitor alarms and system data to identify issues across pumping stations, sewer networks, and treatment works.
- Coordinate urgent field responses to minimise risks of flooding and environmental impact.
- Accurately log decisions, actions, and safety updates.
- Escalate high risk incidents to appropriate teams and managers.
- Support colleagues during busy periods and ensure smooth shift handover.
- Use safety systems and emergency procedures to protect field teams.
- Experience using SCADA systems.
- Knowledge of pumping stations, wastewater treatment works, or network operations.
- Operational experience with an understanding of quality management standards.
- A proactive and methodical approach to managing a high volume of work.
- Strong analytical skills and good numeracy.
- Ability to work under pressure and make quick, sound decisions.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office, and a full UK driving licence for site visits.
- Base location: Reading - Kemble Court, RG2 6AD
- Working hours: 6 week rotating shift pattern with 12 hour day and night shifts, including weekends. Includes a full week and a full 2 week break per 6 week period, with annual leave built into the rota.
- Contract type: Fixed term/secondment for 6 months (2 contracts available).
- Competitive salary up to £45,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
