We are looking for a SHE & Competency Development Lead to shape our safety culture and develop our people.

About the role

In this unique role you will combine Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) expertise with learning and capability development. You will work closely with site leaders, managers and frontline teams to ensure safe operations, regulatory compliance and a proactive safety culture.

You will lead the development of competency frameworks, support SHE compliance and drive a positive safety culture across your area.

What you'll be doing
  • Providing expert SHE guidance and support to managers and operational teams
  • Supporting audits, inspections, incident investigations and safety reviews
  • Implementing SHE programmes to meet internal standards and regulatory requirements
  • Ensuring effective risk assessments and driving timely corrective actions
  • Designing and delivering competency frameworks and training programmes
  • Assessing workforce capability and building development plans to close skills gaps
  • Leading and developing apprenticeship programmes, including mentoring and oversight
  • Managing relationships with training providers and external stakeholders
What we're looking for

We seek a candidate who combines technical SHE knowledge with a strong people development mindset and can influence at all levels.

  • A recognised qualification in Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Management (or equivalent)
  • Strong knowledge of current and emerging SHE legislation
  • Experience developing and delivering training or competency frameworks
  • The ability to analyse skills gaps and implement development plans
  • Experience supporting audits, inspections or investigations
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills
  • A data led approach to decision making
Desirable
  • Engineering qualification (HNC or above)
  • Assessor or training qualifications
  • Experience supporting apprenticeships or structured development programmes
