Contract Service Designer
Location: Remote (UK) with occasional travel to Leeds/Manchester
Contract: Initial 6 months (likely extension)
IR35: Inside IR35

We are supporting a leading consultancy in the search for an experienced Service Designer to join a high-profile public sector transformation programme.
This is an exciting opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary Agile team, helping to design and improve end-to-end services that deliver real value to users while meeting complex organisational and policy requirements.
You'll work alongside User Researchers, Content Designers, Interaction Designers, Product Managers and Delivery Managers to shape services from discovery through to live.
The RoleAs a Service Designer, you will:
Design and improve end-to-end digital services across the full service life cycle.
Map current and future state services using a range of service design techniques.
Facilitate workshops with stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.
Translate complex user, business and operational needs into practical service improvements.
Work closely with User Researchers to ensure evidence drives design decisions.
Collaborate with Product Managers and Delivery Managers to prioritise service improvements.
Create service blueprints, journey maps, ecosystem maps and operational models.
Balance user needs with technical, operational and policy constraints.
Present recommendations confidently to senior stakeholders.
Essential Skills & Experience
Demonstrable commercial experience as a Service Designer.
Strong background delivering digital transformation projects.
Experience working within Agile multidisciplinary teams.
Excellent stakeholder engagement and workshop facilitation skills.
Strong understanding of user-centred design principles.
Experience creating:
Service Blueprints
Customer Journey Maps
Ecosystem Maps
Personas
Service Propositions
Ability to influence senior stakeholders and communicate complex ideas clearly.
Comfortable working across Discovery, Alpha, Beta and Live phases.
Desirable
Public sector or government experience.
Knowledge of the Government Service Standard and GDS Service Manual.
Experience working alongside User Researchers and Content Designers.
Familiarity with accessibility standards and inclusive design.
Experience using tools such as Miro, FigJam, Figma and Confluence
