Job Overview

This post is to support the continued roll out of an ongoing and exciting pilot project providing community screening of people in hard to reach groups for cirrhosis. This project aims to identify people currently using local alcohol and drug services and engage them in screening for cirrhosis and offer interventions to help their liver health. It also aims to provide patients with support to attend screening and offer direct to patient incentives to encourage attendance.

Main Duties of the Job

The postholder will support the Service Coordinator in ensuring the provision of a comprehensive service to the team and be the first point of contact for patients targeted and engaged as part of this pilot scheme.

In conjunction with the Service Coordinator, the post holder will be the point of contact for all administrative and clerical issues relating to patients' pathway of care, tracking and supporting them from first contact, through initial screening and onto further screening/referral to treatment, prior to discharge.

The project aims to provide screening for cirrhosis for patients attending community services such as drug and alcohol treatment centres and to offer patients identified as cirrhotic interventions to maintain good liver health and enroll them into 6 monthly ultrasounds to screen for early liver cancer.

The main base of work will be the Manchester Royal Infirmary; the role will require travel to community settings across Manchester, e.g., drug treatment services.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English
  • Evidence of further study up to and including degree or equivalent
Experience
  • Microsoft Office Experience
  • Experience of working within an acute healthcare setting
  • Ability to use complex software packages and databases
  • Previous administration experience
  • MDT/project management background
  • Experience of working in a radiology setting
  • Experience of drug treatment services
  • Previous experience of working in the community
  • Previous experience of working with people within areas of deprivation or those with alcohol or substance use problems
Knowledge
  • Understanding of patient's pathway of care through an acute trust setting
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology
  • Understanding of data collection process
  • Knowledge of data protection
  • Understanding of medical terminology relating to hepatology
  • Understanding of blood borne viruses (specifically hepatitis C)
  • Knowledge of drug treatment services
