Salary: £95,491 - £119,363

Location: Peterlee, County Durham (5 days on site)

Hours: Full-Time - 36.50

The Opportunity

This role leads the end-to-end value chain engineering for the Articulated Truck product line, with a strategic focus on optimizing value chain design to elevate performance across quality, availability, and cost. It involves cross-functional collaboration with logistics, operations, product and process engineering, procurement, product support, and lifecycle management teams to ensure alignment with customer availability expectations and internal financial targets.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Driving integrated value chain strategies that enhance product delivery and lifecycle efficiency.
  • Identifying and implementing design and process improvements to reduce cost and improve quality.
  • Ensuring supply chain resilience and responsiveness to meet global demand.
  • Aligning engineering and operational priorities with business objectives and customer commitments.

Primary Roles/Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Resiliency & Value Chain Design

  • Design a resilient value chain to optimise business performance to meet customer requirements across business cycles.
  • Develop sourcing matrices and strategies in partnership with procurement category teams to optimise the supply base enabling the business to meet customer requirements across the business cycles.

Supply Chain Design & Optimization

  • Map supply chain flow from supplier to point of use, identifying critical milestones.
  • Optimize cost and lead time while meeting availability targets.
  • Understand product structure and procurement timelines to support operational goals.

Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP)

  • Act as a key participant in S&OP processes, ensuring value chain design alignment with demand cycles through appropriate inventory strategies.

Inventory & Risk Management

  • Protect the value chain through strategic inventory positioning.
  • Position inventory effectively to influence outcomes and mitigate risks.

Footprint & Manufacturing Strategy

  • Drive make-versus-buy decisions at all levels of the BOM , in order to optimise for quality, velocity / availability and cost

Cost Management & TCO

  • Apply Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) methodology to evaluate and optimize cost structures.
  • Identify priority areas for cost reduction to achieve maximum impact on product profitability.

New Product Introduction (NPI)

  • Understand NPI program structure and support program deliverables through value chain optimisation, including sourcing decisions for new components.
  • Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.

  • Business Acumen: Level Extensive Experience: Knowledge of business concepts, tools, and processes that are needed for making sound decisions in the context of the company's business; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Planning: Tactical, Strategic: Level Extensive Experience: Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.
  • Process Management: Level Extensive Experience: Knowledge of business process improvement tools and techniques; ability to understand, monitor, update, control, or enhance existing business or work processes.
  • Quality Management: Level Working Knowledge: Knowledge of quality management methods, tools, and techniques and ability to create and support an environment that meets the quality goals of the organization.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Level Expert: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Capacity Planning & Management - MFG: Level Extensive Experience: Knowledge of tools, approaches and practices for determining production demand and ability to manage resources needed to provide satisfactory levels of service.
  • Industrial Engineering - MFG: Level Working Knowledge: Knowledge of industrial engineering processes, techniques and methods; ability to design and implement various processes and support infrastructures that safely realize a desired objective or invention.
  • Strategic Sourcing: Level Extensive Experience: Knowledge of strategic sourcing methods, technologies and processes; ability to analyze, improve and re-evaluate organizational procurement process continuously.

  • Well-versed in supply chain planning processes and technologies.
  • Strong collaboration skills across multiple teams, roles, and cultures in a matrix organization, extensive experience working with global teams.
  • Ability to work effectively across hierarchical levels and geographies.
  • A proven deep understanding of supply chain, procurement, and manufacturing processes.
  • Analytical mindset to identify cost drivers and prioritize actions for maximum return.
  • Proven track record in leading and developing high-performing teams, with a demonstrated ability to manage and grow talent effectively
