An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Underwriter to join an established London Market underwriting platform, specialising in Property and Delegated Authority business.
The successful candidate will play a prominent role in the management and profitable underwriting of a delegated portfolio, working closely with MGAs and coverholders while helping to deliver the wider underwriting strategy.
This is a senior position offering significant responsibility across portfolio performance, underwriting strategy, CAT exposure and client relationships.
Key Responsibilities- Underwriting & Portfolio Management
- Manage and steer underwriting results across the relevant portfolio, using MI and KPIs to assess production, loss experience, exposure, rate adequacy and pricing discipline.
- Underwrite delegated business in line with established underwriting strategies, guidelines and authority levels.
- Review and refine underwriting guidelines, pricing models and portfolio performance metrics.
- Manage CAT budget allocations and the prudent deployment of CAT aggregate.
- Analyse portfolio performance and identify opportunities to improve profitability and underwriting results.
- Conduct underwriting file reviews and provide peer review where required.
- Support and provide oversight to Underwriters and junior members of the underwriting team.
- Coverholder & Client Management
- Manage relationships with key coverholders and delegated authority partners.
- Conduct operational reviews, audits and due diligence to ensure underwriting standards and guidelines are maintained.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective business partners.
- Attend client meetings and travel for marketing and business development purposes.
- Evaluate new business opportunities and contribute to the development of new relationships.
- Monitor the performance of delegated portfolios and ensure appropriate underwriting standards are maintained.
- Collaboration & Strategy
- Work closely with the wider underwriting team to execute the underwriting strategy and business plan.
- Collaborate with Corporate Underwriting and other internal stakeholders where required.
- Work cross-functionally with Claims, IT, Accounting and Operations to resolve technical and operational matters.
- Contribute to the development of innovative insurance solutions and products.
- Participate in relevant committees and contribute to portfolio reporting and performance analysis.
We are particularly interested in speaking with experienced Property Underwriters and Senior Underwriters who have a strong background in:
- US / North American Property
- Delegated Authority / Binding Authorities
- MGA and coverholder relationships
- Portfolio management
- CAT exposure and aggregate managementUnderwriting strategy and pricing
- London Market / Lloyd's business
You will ideally have a strong technical Property underwriting background combined with the commercial awareness and relationship-management skills required to manage a significant delegated portfolio.
