Senior Tunnel Ventilation Engineer - Epsom OfficeJoin AtkinsRéalis to support the design, delivery and asset performance of tunnel ventilation systems for UK rail and road projects, as well as international projects.
Role Responsibilities- Lead the design and assessment of tunnel ventilation systems, including 1 D modelling (SES / IDA) and CFD studies.
- Prepare fire and life safety assessments and ventilation strategies.
- Support commissioning, testing and asset performance reviews.
- Produce high quality technical reports and client deliverables.
- Act as a technical authority and client facing engineer, strengthening the presence in the UK Rail and Road sector.
- Contribute to strategic growth through bids, proposals and industry engagement.
- Mentor junior engineers and improve processes, tools and best practice.
- Identify opportunities in rail ventilation and fire life safety projects.
- Support bid preparation and technical proposals.
- Represent the business in meetings, workshops and industry events.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with UK rail sector organisations.
- Mentor junior engineers.
- Contribute to process and tool improvements.
- Collaborate with senior leadership on growth strategy.
- Strong client relations with UK Rail tunnel operators.
- Proven experience in tunnel ventilation design and asset management projects.
- Knowledge of SES, IDA Tunnel and CFD tools (e.g. FDS, PyroSim, Pathfinder).
- Good understanding of fire dynamics, smoke control and ventilation principles.
- Familiarity with relevant standards (e.g. NFPA, PIARC, UK guidance).
- Experience delivering projects across design and feasibility stages, with client interaction and coordination.
- Established network within UK rail organisations (e.g. Network Rail, TfL, consultants).
- Demonstrated contribution to business development or winning work.
- Ability to work independently while supporting senior leadership.
- Entrepreneurial mindset to identify and pursue opportunities.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Collaborative yet capable of leading technical discussions.
- Motivation to grow a technical discipline.
