Applications will also be welcomed from more recently qualified officers looking to progress their careers.

About the Role

As a Senior Trading Standards Officer, you will contribute towards the full breadth of Trading Standards activities, including fair trading, product safety, illicit tobacco and vape enforcement, and age restricted sales.

These roles come with a specific focus on crossover work with Private Sector Housing, supporting the authority's commitment to safe, compliant, and well managed homes across Wolverhampton. You will work closely with colleagues in Housing to tackle rogue landlords, ensure compliance with property standards, and help protect some of the most vulnerable residents in our city.

  • Deliver proactive and intelligence led interventions that protect consumers and legitimate businesses
  • Provide specialist advice, guidance, and support to businesses, partners, and residents
  • Take a leading role in joint operations and cross service projects, particularly in relation to Private Sector Housing and landlord compliance
  • Prepare reports, statements, and evidence, and represent the council in legal proceedings where required
  • Support the development and mentoring of officers within the team, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement
  • Help shape service priorities and contribute to the ongoing growth and innovation of the Trading Standards team
Why Join Us?
  • Be part of a growing and ambitious Trading Standards service that is recognised for its high-profile work and strong outcomes
  • Work in a collaborative, supportive, and well regarded team with an excellent reputation internally and city wide
  • Take on varied and meaningful work that directly improves the safety and wellbeing of residents
  • Benefit from excellent professional development opportunities and support to continue your growth
  • Enjoy flexible working arrangements and a strong commitment to work-life balance
About You
  • Qualified Trading Standards Officers (DCATS, DTS, or equivalent)
  • Able to undertake complex investigations and enforcement activity
  • Skilled in interpreting and applying Trading Standards and related legislation
  • Confident in partnership working, particularly in multidisciplinary settings
  • Strong communicators with the ability to influence, advise, and engage effectively
  • Passionate about protecting residents, supporting businesses, and improving community safety
  • Motivated, organised, and able to lead by example

Experience in housing related enforcement is desirable but not essential-training and support will be provided.
