Job overview

As a member of the maternity theatre team, you must be able to perform the tasks of theatre scrub and recovery nurse, supporting the surgeon and other members of the multidisciplinary team.

Toact as a team leader to identified groupofstaff,monitoring and documenting the development of their clinical skills.

Be able toscrub independently and contribute to smoothrunning ofthe theatres list and recover women in recovery area as Band 6.

To undertake Obstetric recovery training within 3 months if you have no recovery experience (1 week refresher training only for those who have worked in this area).

Be responsible for the safe use of complex theatre equipment and ensuring that all equipment at work areas is ready for use.

Follow process of reporting if equipment is faulty or damaged. Responsible for reporting low stock and non-stock supplies that needs ordering and arranging servicing of said equipment both routine and urgent.

In orderto meet theneedsof the Trust'sservicesyou maybe requiredfromtime to time to work at different locations to your normal place of work.

Main duties of the job

Act as patient advocate in line with the NHS plan and to actively apply in depth knowledge of holistic/ socio-economic and cultural aspects of the care to clients within your specific speciality, acting as a role model and resource for patients, relatives and staff

Assess,plan, implement andevaluateprogrammes ofcare,actively seeking evidence based practice which will support clinical outcomes as appropriate.

Ensure that midwifery and nursing documentation is maintained to the Trust standard (including electronic records) and implement clinical audit of records to measure and evaluate care planning

Person specification
  • NMC Registered general Nurse or HCPC registered
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development in relevant area of specialty
  • Academic qualification in Peri-operative practice
Knowledge and experience
  • Leads and manages a designated peri- operative team
  • Able to organise and facilitate an operating list
  • Competent in Scrub and Circulating role
  • Able to recover patient in the Post Anaesthetic area
  • Theatre course or appropriate experience for Band 6
  • Good understanding and knowledge of aseptic techniques, Theatre and Recovery
  • Understanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance
  • High Dependency course or equivalent
  • Recovery Course

Skills, abilities and attributes
  • Committed to family centred care
  • Have an excellent clinical skill which includes IV Cannulation obtaining blood samples
  • Valid Drug administration certificate (To obtain within 3 months)
