Posted 2 hours 30 minutes ago by Workday, Inc.
At Workday, the Authentication Security team is the cornerstone of our user trust and safety. We build and maintain the critical services that act as the front door to our ecosystem. Our mission is to provide secure, scalable, and seamless access for millions of users, protecting their data while enabling a frictionless experience.
About the RoleJoin our Authentication Security team as an experienced Software Developer to design and build highly resilient authentication systems for our platform. We're looking for a hands-on technical leader who loves building highly scalable, distributed security infrastructure. You will work closely with the team to architect and implement critical authentication standards (OIDC, SSO, SAML, FIDO), while ensuring our services remain resilient under heavy load. As a technical leader you will thrive in ambiguity, turning abstract security requirements into concrete, robust solutions. If you are a problem-solver who enjoys navigating complex security architecture, and mentoring others to do the same, this is your opportunity to shape the future of our platform.
What You'll Do- Define the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the security platform in partnership with engineering and product leadership.
- Design and build robust, high-performance services, libraries, and APIs to ensure secure and reliable authentication.
- Develop tools to improve code reliability and streamline the adoption of our security services.
- Leverage and champion good software design patterns and principles.
- Collaborate closely with support and engineering teams to resolve customer issues, fix bugs, and implement new features.
- Contribute to a collaborative team culture that fosters iteration and innovation.
- Operate autonomously with the ability to know when to seek support from team members.
- Participate in on-call rotation and lead incident response for services to ensure quick service restoration during events.
- Engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to deliver high-value results.
- 7+ years of software development experience, leading technical initiatives, designing complex systems, and ensuring scalability and maintainability of software products.
- 7+ years of experience in object-oriented programming such as Java, Scala, or Kotlin.
- Deep understanding of patterns for resilient services (backpressure, idempotency, timeouts, circuit-breaking).
- Deep expertise in API Development (REST) and building microservices.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent work experience.
- Strong understanding of IAM concepts and experience with security, identity, authentication, and authorization solutions and standards such as SAML and OIDC.
- Expert knowledge of identity protocols and standards, including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), and SAML.
- Knowledge of data storage technologies such as Redis and MySQL.
- Experience with source control and CI/CD tools (e.g., Git, Bitbucket, Jenkins).
- Knowledge of Docker and container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes).
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
- Proven ability to write technical design documents and collaborate within a software development team.
- Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server).
